BOOMER DAD: "Just work hard and you'll get promoted."
ME: "I've exceeded every target for 3 years."
BOOMER DAD: "Then promotion should be coming."
ME: "They hired a manager above me instead."
BOOMER DAD: "Maybe they're testing you."
ME: "They're paying him $45,000 more to manage work I've already been doing."
Hard work still matters.
It's just no longer the deciding factor.
@Uvalajnr Lost my right kidney in 2015. Afterwards I asked the surgeon this very question and was informed "yeah, we just kinda had to put everything back in and let it reorient itself. That is normal."
Crazy but the story checks out.
