I’ve spoken recently about the need for peacemakers. On this Father’s Day I feel gratitude for all the fathers who act as peacemakers in their homes and communities.

My own father was an example of this during my childhood. And I have tried my very best to carry over his righteous influence into my own family, which now includes hundreds of people—each of whom I love dearly!

Fathers, as you become peacemakers in your homes, you can literally thwart the influence of the adversary. As you demonstrate the charity that true followers of Jesus Christ manifest, the Lord will magnify your efforts beyond your loftiest imagination.

As you follow the Prince of Peace, you will become His peacemakers.

NEW: President Trump has signed an executive order to scrap regulations that ban supersonic commercial air travel.

The supersonic flight regulation was imposed in 1973 due to noise concerns.

Trump's order "seeks to revolutionize supersonic aviation in the United States" by letting aircraft fly faster than the speed of sound.

"The US used to be the global leader in this technology, but stifling regulations have grounded progress for generations," said director of the WH Office of Science and Technology Policy, Michael Kratsios.

"The reality is that Americans should be able to fly from New York to LA in under four hours."

More from the White House:

- This Order removes regulatory barriers so that U.S. companies can dominate supersonic flight once again.

- The Order directs the FAA to repeal the prohibition on overland supersonic flight, establish an interim noise-based certification standard, and repeal other regulations that hinder supersonic flight.

- The Order instructs the FAA Administrator to establish a standard for supersonic aircraft noise certification that considers community acceptability, economic reasonableness, and technological feasibility.

- The Order advances the coordination of supersonic research, development, test and evaluation efforts through the National Science and Technology Council with leadership from the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

- It promotes international engagement through the FAA and other agencies to align global supersonic flight regulations and secure bilateral agreements for international operations.

The Book of Mormon is a book for our time!

There are many parallels between our current circumstances and those of Capt. Moroni in the book of Alma.

Like Capt. Moroni and the righteous Nephites, we should concentrate on defending our land, not by venturing abroad to fight battles far from home, but by building up our defenses and relying on the Lord to fight our battles for us.

In Alma 48 we read:

14 Now the Nephites were taught to defend themselves against their enemies, even to the shedding of blood if it were necessary; yea, and they were also taught never to give an offense, yea, and never to raise the sword except it were against an enemy, except it were to preserve their lives.

15 And this was their faith, that by so doing God would prosper them in the land, or in other words, if they were faithful in keeping the commandments of God that he would prosper them in the land; yea, warn them to flee, or to prepare for war, according to their danger;

16 And also, that God would make it known unto them whither they should go to defend themselves against their enemies, and by so doing, the Lord would deliver them; and this was the faith of Moroni, and his heart did glory in it; not in the shedding of blood but in doing good, in preserving his people, yea, in keeping the commandments of God, yea, and resisting iniquity."

Moroni began this work by digging up ridges of earth and placing stone walls around border cities (see Alma 48:8).

The Lamanites were stunned by the defenses (see Alma 49:3–4). Recognizing they had been outwitted, they retreated and took their march toward the land of Noah, but those lands were also fortified.

"Now behold, the Lamanites could not get into their forts of security by any other way save by the entrance, because of the highness of the bank which had been thrown up, and the depth of the ditch which had been dug round about, save it were by the entrance. . . .Now when they found that they could not obtain power over the Nephites by the pass, they began to dig down their banks of earth that they might obtain a pass to their armies, that they might have an equal chance to fight; but behold, in these attempts they were swept off by the stones and arrows which were thrown at them; and instead of filling up their ditches by pulling down the banks of earth, they were filled up in a measure with their dead and wounded bodies.” (Alma 49:18, 22)

“Thus the Nephites had all power over their enemies; and thus the Lamanites did attempt to destroy the Nephites until their chief captains were all slain; yea, and more than a thousand of the Lamanites were slain; while, on the other hand, there was not a single soul of the Nephites which was slain” (49:23).

The Lamanites then retreated.

During the next few years of peace, Moroni continued building up defenses. Picket fences built on top of timbers were erected on ridges of earth with towers overlooking these fences. “Behold there never was a happier time among the people of Nephi, since the days of Nephi, than in the days of Moroni, yea, even at this time” (Alma 50:23).

How does this apply to our modern time? “But my disciples shall stand in holy places, and shall not be moved; but among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die” (D&C 45:32).

We must stand in holy places by going to the temple, doing our callings and developing homes where the Savior is worshipped.

We must also support a defensive foreign policy, where we concentrate on defending our countries, not sending troops all over the world to find new battles. For the United States, our troops must be brought back home to work on defending our borders. We are not isolationists -- we will engage the world with peaceful trade and business relationships and humanitarian aid for those in need.

But in terms of military policy, we will keep our troops at home and build fortresses, both physical fortresses and spiritual fortresses. We will keep the commandments and petition the Lord to protect us so we will have all power over our enemies.

We must follow Moroni's example. Now is the time to prepare for the Savior's Second Coming, by preaching peace but preparing for defensive battles.

As disciples of Christ, we are His ensign. We develop and display His attributes to honor, respect, and glorify Him. We can wave a variety of flags demonstrating Christlike behavior.

Today I share four metaphorical flags—ensigns, banners—that might enhance you as you strive to follow the example of the Savior in your life. Consider each of them as a call to action:

1.Wave the ensign of peacemaker.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

2.Carry the standard of understanding.
“And with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7).

3.Raise the banner of the Restoration.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
