@TSNDaveNaylor@CFLisFun@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN I understand that, but I’m not willing to sacrifice part of our Canadian cultural identity for the potential of expanding the league to foreign markets at some point in the future - especially given how badly U.S. expansion went in the ‘90’s. I don’t want to watch UFL North.
@CFLisFun@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN Symbolism is important - suggest changing the name & logo of each team & see how much push-back you get, even though it has 0 impact on game play. But it goes beyond symbolism - the big, wide field is part of the identity of the Canadian game.
@ChrisKFilms@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN I appreciate that point of view, but my mind is already made up. I’m actually having a lot of trouble getting excited for the current season because I know what’s coming. I don’t appreciate being treated this way by the league, and I’ll spend my money elsewhere as a result.
@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN The length of the field probably won’t change how a single play is executed. But it still means everything to me, & right now it’s the difference between whether I’m a fan or not going forwards.
I’ll enjoy the 2026 season while it lasts… at least if my beloved Tiger-Cats win!
@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN Canadian Football is played on a Canadian Field - 110 yards long, 65 yards wide, ~20 yard end zones & 3 downs. For me, these are fundamental parts of the Canadian game. If one of them change, it stops being Canadian Football to me. & at that point, it’s no longer worth my money.
@Argonuts@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN It’s my stand to take, and my money to spend, or not, as I see fit. The CFL is acting like it’s entitled to my financial support. It’s not. It has to earn it. And right now, it’s taking a course that I can’t live with and still be a fan - it’s as simple as that.
@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN Better game? No. Different game? Uniquely Canadian game? Yes.
I can live with the other changes - even moving the goal posts. I might not like them, but I can live with them. But the field dimensions are my line in the sand. If that changes, my money goes elsewhere.
@MiltStegallTSN@CFL I will absolutely not be spending my hard earned money to purchase a product that no longer appeals to me. The commissioner has stated that the fans concerns don’t need to be addressed, and that we’ll “come around”. That’s not going to happen for me.
@TSNDaveNaylor@Greg_Basham@MiltStegallTSN The owners have the power to name their own commissioner.
The owners have the power to change the rules.
But the owners do not have the power to make me pay my hard earned money to watch Canadian teams play on a 100 yard field.
@TheJCAbbott@3DownNation ✅ Lies
✅ Gaslighting
✅ Smug Dismissal Of The Fans Concerns
✅ Demand That The Fans Continue To Give Him Money
✅ Expectation That Fans Will Happily Pay More
Sorry Mr. Doman - not going to happen. I’m not giving a cent to this league if the “structural changes” go ahead.
@VINTAGESASKO A LOT of the excuses for the Hamilton attendance (Thursday, too hot, school’s in session, people saving money for World Cup) don’t apply to Calgary tonight…
@JohnDHodge So, remember when you asked all of the teams if they had seen ticket sales drop because of the rule changes? And Hamilton responded with “I don’t want to talk about it”? Well, this might be why they didn’t want to talk about it.
