I can also confirm that David Carle has accepted an offer to be head coach of the @MapleLeafs
Fine tuning of the contract today, with the announcement likely tomorrow (unless leaked). New regimeβs focus on limiting leaks remains strong.

I was never really on the Danford hype train and thought we'd be lucky if he became a stable 3rd pai guy. But watching him these games, he is very impressive.
A very good 2nd pair NHL defenseman is a very possible outcome for him. Leafs have a good one.

We now know that the following players all played through relitively significant injuries at different points of the 2025-26 season for absolutely no reason at all:
- Matthews
- Knies
- Nylander
- Domi
- McCabe
- OEL

Wright and McKenna are not comparable.
Wright had barely played the year and a half before his draft due to Covid and injuries. He also had a poor final season. He also dropped to 4th overall.
McKenna's final year in the WHL was similar to Bedards draft -1 and Mcdavids draft -1. Then after a slow start in college, his pts per game was similiar to Celebrini in college.
@lllljgllll_ Because he has been the Marlies starting goalie all playoffs and is the higher regarded prospect compared to where Hildeby was regarded at this of his career.
@RandyLahey1994@_Prom3theus_@PuckDontLie Marner had 59 Pts in 64 games in his pre-draft year. What are we even arguing about here.
Marner is not comparable as a prospect to any of the three players above.
Leafs have 22M in cap space entering free agency and have 3 roster spots to fill.
And this is without moving out any existing contracts. This free agent class is not great, but the Leafs have the ability to give any player any contract.

They had a rookie Cowan, and an injured Matthews and Knies.
In two years they will have Cowan in his 3rd season, McKenna in his 2nd season, Knies in his 5th season, with Matthews and Nylander in their early 30's. That's something they never had before.
And the biggest difference is no flat cap.
The Leafs never had a prime Knies or Cowan outside of those 4 players.
The cap was also flat, and they could never go after a big free agent Dman. The cap is now growing rapidly, and the Leafs have 22M this year and close to 40M next year.
They can go after any big UFA Dmen available.
@WinesandVines@xxxDADDYCOOLxxx@Leafslatest Dubas did not do a good job, but that did Lou do that was spectacular. He made some awful trades and signings.
Pretty much the only good move Lou made was extending Kadri.
