Students watching a video about cognitive load theory scored higher on delayed tests of factual recall and comprehension if they had to generate a relevant example while retrieving knowledge, or rewatching the video: https://t.co/KSGOvnsomZ ($)
From a student: "This is working my brain so bad right now." Enjoyed trying hexagonal thinking with my Gr 12s for the first time as a Friday afternoon activity about The Things They Carried 🤓
@DMillardHaskell Here’s an excerpt from the ENG3U and ENG4U curriculum published in 2007. Topics of race, gender, diversity, bias, inclusion, power etc. have always been there.
Why the sudden outrage now? Because we’ve expanded the voices and perspectives that students read and hear?
Trying a mini-unit with my ENG4U class using the @modernclassproj asynchronous method and it is sooo cool to see how engaged they are 🤓 Will be interesting to hear about what they get out of it at the end!
In every majority-Christian nation, the systems are set up to ensure those with the most resources receive the most care and support. We're so accustomed to this that we may even consider it "natural." But this is not how Christian sacred texts want social orders designed...
In the mute August afternoon
They trembled to some undertune
Of music in the silver air;
Great pleasure was it to be there

For more on the importance of books and of libraries, and their centrality to the lives of all of us, I highly recommend The Library Book by @susanorlean
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

One of the trickier parts of AI is that it aggregates the opinions found online. Sometimes those opinions could be challenging or problematic. With that in mind, digital literacy is even more important than ever. This will be a great resource to combat digital bias.
In anticipation of #pride2023: coming very soon, I'll be sharing a free guide to help folks explore this framework which digs into the intersection of #ailiteracy & #lgbtq+ #inclusion.

Sitting in the back of @LisaWest23's drama class this morning. Hearing the joy in this class (even during an assessment!) has instantly made my day better 🥲
I am reminded of Chelsea Vowel's keynote at the @CIS_CITE Conference:
"You cannot shock people into empathy without also harming the people you are trying to get them to empathize with."
I see we’re doing that “circulating videos of violence against Black folks” thing again. I’ve been back on this app less than two days and so quickly reminded of why I left.
