Latest from @LevineJonathan: NYC First Lady Rama Duwaji illustrated an essay by an author who rails against “Jewish supremacists,” calls Israeli Jews “demonic parasites,” and praised Candace Owens.

Oct 7 cleaved the world in two for me. First there was the unspeakable, ever-worsening horror of what had happened. And then there was the different kind of horror as I realized that people I knew—people I was close friends with and related to— were supporting the murderers and rapists.
I stopped being able to socialize with these people. I knew from their social media feeds, where they blithely put up Palestinian flags and Valentine hearts to Gaza, where they stood. I was and remain disgusted by their cowardice, especially as I think they are all just going along with the crowd. This was another “Coexist” bumper sticker or BLM sign they could put in their window.
This changed everything for me. It’s why I started writing again. It’s why I wrote an essay for Quillette about a 30-year-old rape. It’s why I became obsessed with the notion that we should tell the truth and why I put up an American flag on my barn. It’s why I started reconsidering Christianity.
Because these people—and they are all on the left, in the atheist, activist, preening tribe I come from—are morally bankrupt cowards, and I don’t want anything to do with them. I reject their entire aesthetic, which is what it is—a vibe, a look, a posture—not a moral system or even an intellectual engagement. And it didn’t stop with Oct 7.
It was absolutely a red line.
Years from now, it will be obvious why, in this specific moment in human history, as we faced high-powered technologies and political ideologies aimed at paving the way for their dominance over humans, what emerged—what had to emerge—was an intense, global debate about, of all things, Zionism.

I was walking down the street in NYC on my way to work, brand new to the city from a lifetime in Arizona, and I saw a woman with a black smudge on her forehead, and I thought, I hope she notices that before she gets to the office, and then I saw a man with one, and another man, and then another woman and I started tripping out, like wtf is going on? I was that many years old when I learned about Ash Wednesday.
