President Trump announced that beginning August 1, 2026, imported generic drugs will remain tariff-free for two years before facing a 100% tariff for one year and a 200% tariff thereafter. He said the policy is designed to encourage pharmaceutical companies to bring generic drug manufacturing back to the United States while maintaining the current policy for patented and brand-name medications.
