@mandyeellis Looks fabulous ! How did you do this ? We have the “green” block at our building and was told it’s too expensive to paint / redo. Would love to learn from you.
@DrRachaelGeorge @mradamwelcome So many takeaways- Not all fires are mine to extinguish ~Keep it Simple~Good Enough is necessary/acceptable sometimes ~Family first #NAESP21
A2: First of all, as the principal, I let people know that school should be a place of joy and fun. If teachers are having fun teaching, there's a really good chance that our kids are engaged and loving learning. #LeadLAP
We utilized a clip chart with ADULTS during our training this morning. Turns out that adults absolutely hate this public display of behavior. Resulted in anxiety, disengagement, fear, resentment and embarrassment. If adults don’t like these tools, how do you think kids feel?
A4: For principals, kids won't/can't like us unless we spend time with them. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel like elementary principals need to pull some lunch duty daily just for this reason. #leadupchat

Try to limit yourself to 5-8 minutes of whole group teacher talk time for each class period. Time yourself to see how long you ARE talking on a typical day. If it is more than 10 minutes, they likely won't remember much of what you say anyway. #TeachBetter
One thing I’ve learned...& I wish more people would focus on....teaching is not ALL about relationships. It’s the foundation on which you begin, but great pedagogical practices are necessary to truly do your job & be a great teacher. They‘re not mutually exclusive #KidsDeserveit
The position of principal is critical to setting the tone, carrying the message, and telling the story. Every school, every teacher, every student deserves a school lead by a person who chooses positivity through words and actions.
The school principal sets the tone for a school. A tone of intentional risk-taking and innovation or a tone of rigid compliance. It is the principal who can stifle creativity, imagination, and risk-taking or empower staff to find their greatness.
