@Dean_of_math My class is the last class of the day in that classroom so we do an organization to be ready and tidy for the next day. I embed a learning accountability piece into my lesson.
Administrators. do you carry a post it note pad with you? Always be ready to write a quick note of thanks or inspiration to your staff! Even if you come upon an empty room, leave a note of thanks or how lucky their students are to have them as a teacher. Teachers do these for colleagues too! We all like to be recognized for a job well done! POP ( Post-its of Praise)
Teachers love Admin who:
1) Roll up their sleeves to help
2) Really listen
3) Present: in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, lunchroom
4) Value teachers' time
5) Support/encourage them
6) Respect /value them
7) Have their back
8] Appreciate them
For me DI never gets old and yes our high academic kids need it too! For me, it’s all about fostering understanding by design through modelling, collaboration, and choice.
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
3 expectations to set the cultural tone of your staff for the new school year
1) Be your Best, whatever your role, do your best
2) No Surprises. If something is wrong, I want to hear it from you, not grapevine
3) We support each other. We're a team, not competitors
