Non-traditional Special Ed teacher for students with trauma, mom, polyamorous queer lady, and generally tired of being angry. Not on twitter to be professional.
@sage_stage Sounds like a great way to encourage more ableism and racism in the classroom. I already know which teachers on my team would use this and who they'd kick out, and they're ALL students with disabilities and severe trauma histories. Public schools are for all students.
@heymrsbond My state finally switched to an RTI system, and the director of Special Ed said she'll reject eval plans if the ELA teachers didn't do decoding/fluency lessons. She literally won't believe us when we say that's never been part of the 7-8th gr curriculum. ELA/= Reading Specialist!
@EThorntonGHS OMFG YES. I remember a (fellow) yt coworker telling a group of 8th grade black students it "wasn't school appropriate" to chant and dance while standing in a circle... in the gym.... during recess... LET BLACK GIRLS HAVE FUN.
@SherylOsweiler @heymrsbond Then why, when I worked for a Public Charter in TN, was I asked every May to identify a few 8th grade students who "couldn't cut it" and needed to be encouraged/told to transfer to a different school?
@aireekaw @MichaelDeSousa5 Field trips are fun for parents because they get to go someplace special, and it's usually cute or entertaining. Helping out in a classroom is not the same kind of cute or entertaining, especially if you're asking for physical labor or clerical work.
@KtheDilettante @Steve_M_56 @mattxiv Different song. "If the devil is six" is from This Monkey's Gone to Heaven by the Pixies, and you're quoting Kiss Off by the Violent Femmes
THIS is last year's Christmas card from Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican who represents the district that Covenant School is in in Nashville. #tnleg
@THEToughCookie @GovBillLee@TNDeptofSafety@TNHighwayPatrol Because Evagelicals don't care about human life as much as they do Heaven. They truly believe that it's OK if a child is murdered, because the child gets to hang out with Jesus now. To them, the murdered children are BLESSED.
@KristiCornettTN @GovBillLee@TNDeptofSafety@TNHighwayPatrol The sick thing is that Evangelicals like Lee don't care about kids' lives - only their odds of going to heaven. They truly believe that allowing kids to be victims of school shootings and praying for their souls afterward is better for kids (and the U.S.) than physical safety.
@LRNROSE Yeah, one student in the grade above mine died by suicide and another from complications related to a severe, chronic condition. There have been deaths at two schools I've worked in as well.
@Pj20212022@HattieMags@ModestTeacher I have never been annoyed when my chronically tardy/absent students came in to school late - I've been relieved, glad to see them, and thankful that there was someone in the kid's life who helped them get to school.
