#DRIVE in the Media! ๐ฐ๐ช We seek to create better outcomes for pastoralists in Kenya and throughout the Horn of Africa - through climate resilience, financial inclusion, connection to markets and regional integration #GetToKnowUs
In one single day yesterday, Ethiopians planted 566 million tree seedlings on 302,000 hectares of land as part of the drive to restore the country's forest cover. Since 2019, this country has held annual tree planting days, and so far, 25 billion trees have been planted.
It is Nelson Mandela who once said that:" It always seems impossible until it is done."
What Ethiopia is doing can be done anywhere else, especially in most of our countries in the Global South--where the realities of climate change, changing weather patterns, floods, landslides and droughts, etc have already caused massive deaths, destruction and displacement--because mother nature has been left naked due to human activity.
It is important that ambitious efforts like this tree planting exercise are replicated elsewhere, because addressing the effects of climate change require collective action--because floods and droughts do not respect national boundaries. In this short video, you see many people, including the Secretary -General of the Organisation of Southern Cooperation, the newest international intergovernmental organisation founded by countries from the Global South,@MBinMussallam and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia @DemekeHasen taking part in planting tree seedlings at a Botanical Garden in Addis Ababa.
SHARE this good news and any other examples like this, and Have Your Say. It always seems impossible until it is done.

"The pastoral population in Kenya is estimated at 22 million people, with an incidence of extreme poverty of 41%. Between 33% and 65% of the people depend on livestock for their livelihoods."~@HopeMurera

The DRIVE Project will bring financial inclusion to the pastoralist communities in the HoA while mitigating the effects of drought. Economic integration will also help facilitate livestock trade and upgrade the value chains. @kilimoKE @KDC_KE
"ZEP-RE is particularly keen to ensure equity empowerment of pastoral communities by focusing on innovating how women, youth, and people with disability would also access financial services and linkages to markets and trade-related opportunities under component two." ~Hope Murera
