These are the economically illiterate rubes who Mamdani has hoodwinked and are pushing socialism. "I'm a Dior bag socialist" and she says there's enough wealth in this country where nobody should have to live in poverty, but it's being hoarded by 10 guys.

The combined wealth of the 10 richest guys in America is $3 trillion...now keep in mind, kids, they don't have that in cash. That's the combined value of all their businesses. If you were to seize 100% of all their assets, you'd have to compel the sale of all of their stock and their entire businesses. You wouldn't eve be able to get the full $3T because the forced sale of their stock and businesses would crash the entire market and you would only get pennies on the dollar. Not only that, by seizing the means of production, you've now decimated businesses that employ 2 million people...these are taxpayers. Those businesses generate wealth and tax revenue, every year, in perpetuity...if you wipe them out, you collapse the entire economy and all the tax revenue required to fund all your social services.

But even in this imaginary Mamdani world, if you were to somehow seize $3T, that might sound like a lot, but that would only fund government for 5 months. That's it. Then it's gone forever, and all the annual wealth and revenue that their businesses create would be gone, causing a cascading collapse of tax revenue that would make the entire government go belly up. Even if you were to distribute that $3T as direct cash payments to every American, you know how much that would give you? $8,900. That's it. 4 months rent, at the expense of wiping out the entire American economy.

When I tell you these communists are stupid...I mean, they are dangerously stupid. They are truly like children; they fundamentally lack any understanding of how things work, so they can LARP as adults in this fantasyland of free everything.

And listen to what she says at the end...it perfectly sums up everything wrong with these socialists: "I'm not a political scientist, so if that's wrong, I don't care"

This is a truly wild story, and it seems to only be getting coverage in right wing media, but it is in fact true.

The DA of Philadelphia, Larry Krasner, long held up as a leading figure in leftist “Criminal Justice Reform” is facing federal charges of perjury and obstruction.

He is accused of pressuring his attorneys to lie to a judge and threatening them if they would not, in an attempt to overturn a murder conviction.

Krasner’s CJR movement holds that the real injustice is putting criminals in prison.

We see how far he was willing to go for this.

My jaw was literally agape during this scene, you can ask my neighbor. I know people like this. I love people like this. I love them despite and because of this. I wonder if this film critic does. If not, this was the opportunity to develop understanding. Take it or leave it.

To anyone who has, Billy’s reaction was 1000% relatable. And for Nathan, this is a turning point as he comes to the same realization. One of many turns for him. It’s unclear exactly where he ends up, but in considering the closing line of the film, I thought back to this moment. I think he started to care here.

For me, seeing someone who doesn’t get any of this, and calls it a “skin-crawling attempt”. I see them the way Nathan sees Elizabeth in this scene. You’re missing something, and you don’t even know it. I can’t figure out whether to feel disgusted or sorry for you.

You’re writing about this subject, and you namecheck a “mindset,” but you don’t understand the first thing about it. Even after having this exploration injected directly into your frontal cortex for 3 hours.

I wonder if it was always that. When she was ceo, was she using this ability to make her employees feel protective? Likely not. She was probably trying to get them to be loyal, productive, etc.

We see her in this low state. From the Carreyrou account she also has a vicious high state.

Without pathologizing or naming this tendency, I wonder how much of this is someone running on a high for a long time crashing out and this is what we see in this 4 week period.

@mattyglesias Possibly non sequitur but Theranos is the only tech company I’ve ever heard of to have a board filled with former government officials, and notably missing any tech investors of any kind.

The remedy to Liz Holmes was board governance, and that responsibility was abdicated.
