Dementia is the biggest health crisis of our time and affects not only those living with it, but also their loved ones and carers.
Our Lived Experience Survey captures the voices of people affected by dementia, made up of those living with the condition, unpaid carers, and loved ones.
The findings expose a system buckling under pressure and serious gaps in care, diagnosis, and public awareness – leaving too many families to cope alone.
What has been your experience of dementia?
Seven out of ten carers for people with dementia say that caring has negatively impacted their lives. It has impacted on their mental health and made them feel more socially isolated.
Caring for someone with dementia is rewarding, but it can also be mentally exhausting and carers can forget about themselves.
Members of our community shared their experiences of caring for loved ones with dementia:
‘Life revolves around them seven days a week. Our lives our put on hold’
‘It destroyed my life. I am now invisible and exhausted’
‘I feel like I’ve traded my own quality of life to give them theirs’
‘It changes your life, not just during but after your care journey. It takes such a toll on you’
‘It’s completely changed my life. I’m so worried. I keep burying my head in the sand about the future’
This World Alzheimer’s Month we’re giving voices to those affected by dementia, highlight the significant challenges currently overwhelming people living with dementia and their loved ones.
What has been your experience of caring for someone with dementia?

Blood tests are only the tip of the iceberg with ‘menowashing’.Women are being exploited by influencers & ‘specialists’. So much misinformation on benefits/treatments/supplements.After 20 yrs as a menopause specialist I find consultations more complex & challenging than ever. Can’t be easy in primary care.Fortunately some will listen to accurate evidence based advice @BrMenopauseSoc@COSRH_UK@RCObsGyn
'We were heartened to see moral injury recognised in the 10-year plan' say Naja Felter and Alistair Thomson in their blog. But for the 10 Year Health Plan to have impact, they argue, compassionate leadership must be at the heart of the health service. https://t.co/I7wkGq6nND

🆕 ICU survivors are being failed. 7 in 10 get no rehab screening. Almost half are never referred for follow-up.
Physios are ready to deliver rehab. But the system is failing them - and their patients.
It’s time to fix the gaps in care.
