🦔Delta's CEO said AI will boost profits by 50% by setting a different ticket price for every passenger in real time. The airline uses an AI system called Fetcherr that generates a unique price for each shopping request. Delta told Congress last year it was not using personal data for individualized pricing. Its investor presentation described building toward offers for "you, the individual." Airlines are exempt from FTC pricing oversight.

My Take
This is what AI does for a company like Delta. It doesn't make your flight better or your bag show up faster. It watches how you shop and figures out the most you'll pay before you close the tab. Consumer Reports found Uber and Lyft charging 42% different prices for the same ride at the same time, and the House Oversight Committee found one case where two people got quoted $76 and $24 for the same trip. Delta is building the airline version of that, and every carrier will follow because the economics are too good to pass up.

Walmart told us this week that families are choosing between gas and groceries at $4 a gallon. Delta's answer to those same families is an algorithm that squeezes them for every dollar they have left. Airlines are exempt from FTC pricing rules, state laws are preempted by federal deregulation, and the CEO told Congress one thing while telling investors another. When people ask me where the trillions going into AI actually end up, I think Delta just gave us one of the most honest answers we've gotten.

The slow approval process for CA Forever wasn't the driver of Saronic's decision to choose the Port of Brownsville location in spite of claims to the contrary.

The real pivot point in the negotiations was the union requirement (both constructing the shipyard and building the ships) attached to California Forever vs complete non-union in Texas

The son of one my best friends is on Gov Abbott's staff and was part of the TX process. His words:

-California Forever was never a serious choice for Saronic and was only used as leverage to negotiate the the best deal in TX. Saronic never really considered doing their shipyard in CA. TX knew CA Forever was a bluff card.

-Port of Brownsville shipyard will be built with non-union construction labor at a much lower cost than a union shipyard at CA Forever

-Actual ship building at the Port of Brownsville will be done with non-union labor at a far lower cost whereas California Forever would have required a union ship builder workforce

At the end of the day there was a massive difference in construction and ship building costs between Port of Brownsville and CA Forever and it made TX the clear choice for Saronic

Had CA gotten the approvals in place timely it would not have changed Saronic's ultimate decision. CA Forever is/was significantly non-competitive from a cost perspective and that drove the decision.

Apple $AAPL just filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in federal court alleging trade secret theft

Apple says OpenAI took the iPhone maker’s intellectual property in order to develop its own consumer hardware.

Reports that the White House has dismissed the remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission — all of whom were unanimously confirmed by the Senate, including a commissioner appointed by President Trump himself — should concern every American, regardless of party, because the EAC was established by Congress as an independent, bipartisan body to help states administer secure and credible elections.

If these reports are accurate, removing every remaining commissioner just months before the 2026 midterm elections is an extraordinary step that demands an immediate explanation from the administration and raises profound concerns about political interference in the institutions that support our elections.
