The Greens got 0.7% in Makerfield
Yet some on this site claimed the Greens could win.
We face a serious task to stop a Trump-style government here.
Progressives will have to work together to stop that.
That requires serious politics based on reality - not wishful thinking.
@KathrynDW59@RichardBurgon@liberteguernica The point of the tweet is that they have been sentenced for "terrorism", something they were *not charged with*. Do you support the increasing use of terrorism legislation for things that clearly are not terrorism? Including people holding up signs?
“I’ve got nothing but respect for women… I’ve said things years ago that I wouldn’t say now”
Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon says he “won’t accept” being labelled as “sexist”, but admits he “made mistakes” with comments he made “15 years ago” that have been “dragged up”

The concerns I raised about Gaza - including distressing eyewitness accounts from UK medics - were a result of moral urgency, not 'mid life crisis'.
It felt like hitting a brick wall at the time - now I know how casually those concerns were dismissed.

You wouldn't know it from the media coverage, but Colombia's left increased its vote compared to the first round at the last election - when it won!
It won't be easy to win the Second Round runoff, but everything is still up for grabs.
Three weeks is a long time in politics.
@AlexDemSoc_161 I very much agree that anything can happen. Obviously a difficult picture for the left - despite its vote going up- but the second round cannot be assumed to be a simple addition of the different right-wing blocs. Three weeks is a long time in politics.
@joshsimonsmp You were pretty "radical" when organising for journalists to be spied on and all the other stuff that's starting to come out about Labour Together.
Millions of progressives will be looking at what the Greens do in Makerfield.
So they’ll need an explanation justifiable to millions - not the false claim they can win there.
That’s like Jo Swinson in 2019 refusing to choose between Corbyn and Boris by claiming she’d be PM!
@kevin_ovenden Analogies are never perfect and this one especially so. But one role for the greens could be to put left pressure on him in office like Podemos/Sumar do in Spain on Sanchez. Obviously that would reflect a certain vision for the party. But one I suspect most members would back.
