If anyone is looking for any of the above, please DM me! I will be doing my due diligence and applying as well, but thought I'd just put this out here 🙂
So I mentioned this in my last tweet but this is my official personal news post: It's been a month since I've left the Salt Lake Tribune as their ed reporter, and so I'm currently looking for full-time remote or local SLC opportunities!
I am open to freelance opportunities as well, some things I can write about for your news organization (but not limited to):
- Utah education/culture-related education stories
- AAPI-focused stories
- Arts! Food! Feature stories within those spaces
The employees of The Salt Lake Tribune are forming a union and asking for voluntary recognition. Read our letter to management and the board here ⬇️ and follow @SLNewsGuild.
Just for some full transparency, I left the Tribune earlier this month in efforts to pivot into a more journalism-adjacent role in the industry, but I am so happy to show support to my former colleagues in this effort to unionize. Please follow and support @SLNewsGuild!
We the journalists of the @SLTrib are forming a union to ensure an equitable Salt Lake Tribune newsroom and a sustainable future for the vital local journalism Utahns count on. Read more about our effort at https://t.co/h7qtpdaDAi. #SaltLakeNewsGuild
Earlier this month I wrote a letter to Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz after he mischaracterized @sltrib reporting and criticized our reporters during a news conference.

@CourtneyLTanner last week won 2nd in the nat'l contest, administered @Cronkite_ASU, for work on how Utah fails Ute Indian Tribe youth

So something really touching and heartbreaking just happened. I had my sign of some journalists martyred in January, and a person came up to me and gently took my sign in his hands. English wasn't his first language but he made his point clearly...
Hey internet! I've been very much off this site for a bit but thought it'd be good once in a while to share some stuff I've worked on lately for @sltrib, as always please feel free to reach out to me with any education tips!
