Ok so, #NotAllMen - just the ones who murder, the ones who rape (and I don’t just mean trench-coat clad strangers in dark alleys, I also mean your friend who knew his girlfriend was too drunk to say yes or no, or that guy who pressured her into sex because he bought dinner) [1]
The bottom line is, women do not want nor are we asking for men to protect us, we’re asking for men to stop being the thing we need protection from. I can’t make it any clearer.
The bombing of a tent village in a designated safe zone in Gaza is difficult to accept.
Terrorists may well have been the targets, but what chance do civilians living in tents in a place where they had been directed to stay by the IDF have when airstrikes drop munitions that leave a 9-meter-deep crater?
The @guardian reports...
Israeli airstrikes on al-Mawasi “humanitarian zone” in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 40 people and injured another 60, according to witnesses and medical officials in the blockaded Palestinian territory.
At least four missiles hit the overcrowded supposed “safe zone” on the coast in central Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday, causing dozens of tents to catch fire and leaving craters of as deep as 9 metres, the civil emergency service said. Hundreds of thousands of displaced people are sheltering in Mawasi, where conditions are dire, after being ordered to move there by the Israeli military.
This headline manages to reinforce several pillars of rape culture at once, one being that sexual violence is a private act and coming forward about it publicly is a transgression, another that any attempt to seek justice for sexual violence is a form of violence in itself
ultimately, the way you refuse to acknowledge any of this is your responsibility too is why this is happening to us. It’s why we are being murdered, abused, rape and harassed.
All of it’s connected. All of it matters. And none of it will decrease until you wake up and join the fight. 👊🏻
A law I helped create was the reason Giselle’s husband was caught. It exposed the stomach churning abuse of his wife.
I have received hundreds of messages over the last 48hrs about it.
Here’s how I feel: 🧵
this always feels relevant but especially right now. when I was 14 part of the self-defence advice we were given was 'just don't be there' - that doesn't work when 'there' is every space possible

Hi I am a South Asian student at the @UniofOxford and we have not even received ONE email to warn us about the race riots that are attacking persons of colour. Some international students still have no clue about the situation and are out alone by the city and at risk.
