I had the choice between starting a politically leftist, woke-skeptical Twitter and my head exploding. I chose the former.
Economically left, socially sane.
First, they steal opportunities from women.
Then, they tell us we “should be celebrating” this as a victory for women.

I'm trying to recall a single instance of a resignation of conscience at Fox News over the network's support for Putin's war. Marina Ovsyannikova risked life and liberty to tell her viewers the truth. Is there one wealthy Fox director or employee willing to forgo a single check?
@deadlevelbest @AquaVelvaBoy@Scottl1971@thomaschattwill uhhh, nope. 20 years ago, to get canceled you'd have to say some Jimmy the Greek level stuff. Now, all you have to do, for example, is suggest that, politically, it's not a smart idea for the left to be associated with rioting and looting.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill If, on the other hand, you said "I think this person said something wrong and stupid and here's why" that, of course, is the kind of free speech we should all be engaging in. Because it leads to an exchange of ideas that, in the end, may result in people realizing some truth.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill Me saying "I don't think you should complain to a company to try to get someone fired because they're not sufficiently antiracist" is not silencing you. It's asking you to please not use whatever power you have to not silence another.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill Well, I suspect we have nothing left to talk about on this then. I can't argue against someone that won't make their views clear.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill No. To silence something means you try to punish them. Getting fired is punishment. So is going to jail. I, on the other hand, am merely disagreeing with those that want to use private punishment to silence others. My approach does not involve punishment. That's the difference.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill We both agree that there are cases where statements should get you fired. Maybe I'm wrong in assuming that you and I disagree on where that point is and we're talking past each other. What's an example of a racist statement that's just barely racist enough to get someone fired?
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill Well, I sprinkle my tweets with very minor insults. For you, insults are the main flavor, peppered with the occasional cogent thought.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill Clearly there will be limits about what is acceptable. I think the limits were fine where they were, say, 20 yrs ago. I don't think one should have to adopt the opinions of the most woke corners of Twitter in order to contribute to the discussion, say, on race. But many people do
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill What I want is a free speech culture that accomplishes the point of free speech, which is to allow for as open a discussion as possible so that we, as a society, are able to come to the right conclusions about things.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill Wow. It's inconceivable to you that someone might think in a way that's not exactly like the rest of their internet bubble. It think that says more about you than it does about me.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill We've established that Tweets are too short to be able to make a case nuanced enough to reflect reality. Sometimes it takes a lot of tweets to do so. Doesn't make anyone a hypocrite. You, however, are kind of a jerk.
@AquaVelvaBoy @deadlevelbest @Scottl1971@thomaschattwill And of course there are things that should get you fired, but what's new is that people are now getting fired over things only a 16 year old tumblr addict would think was bigoted. Not things a klansman would say, but things that might actually need to be discussed openly.
