Judicial restraint is a key component of originalism and serves the best interests of constitutional government.
Antonin Scalia on many occasions remarked on why the originalist approach served best to restrain the personal policy preferences of judges and force them to wrestle with the text and meaning of the law. It would be a mistake to reject judicial restraint as a critical justification for originalism.
