BREAKING: An east London mosque, the Darul Arqam Mosque & Muslim Community Centre, has released footage of the damage to their property following a vandalism incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Paint was thrown across the exterior walls, doors, and windows of the mosque.

The masjid is now working with police to find the vandals and establish the motive behind the attack.

Mosques all across the UK are increasingly being targeted by similar acts of vandalism amid rising Islamophobia.

In a statement, Darul Arqam Mosque said: “This is a deeply concerning incident, particularly as it involves a place of worship that serves the whole community.

"We remain committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and peaceful environment for everyone. We kindly ask anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious or has relevant information to come forward and assist.

"We appreciate the continued support and unity of our community during this time.”

Masjid Al-Aqsa in 2025: From Managing Incursions to Imposing Sovereignty

In 2025, Masjid Al-Aqsa witnessed a dangerous escalation in the nature of Israeli aggression. The year marked a clear shift from a policy of managing settler incursions to an active project aimed at imposing Jewish religious, security, and legal sovereignty over Masjid Al-Aqsa.

This escalation unfolded amid Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, the presence of an extremist Israeli government, and a complete international, Arab, and Muslim failure to confront violations of the established status quo in Masjid Al-Aqsa. At the same time, Palestinians in Jerusalem were subjected to harassment, exclusion orders, and severe restrictions on access to *Masjid* Al-Aqsa, creating conditions that enabled the occupation and Temple organisations to advance their plans.

During 2025, more than 73,400 settlers carried out incursions into Masjid Al-Aqsa. This is the highest number recorded since Masjid Al-Aqsa was occupied and reflects the growing capacity of Temple organisations to mobilise mass incursions.

These incursions were accompanied by the imposition of Torah rituals inside Masjid Al-Aqsa, with a noticeable escalation during Jewish religious festivals. Two attempts were also made to smuggle goats into Masjid Al-Aqsa as part of efforts to impose animal sacrifice rituals. Both attempts were thwarted before completion.

Main tracks of aggression in 2025

• Public and collective performance of Torah rituals inside Masjid Al-Aqsa, particularly in the eastern section, treated by settlers as an undeclared synagogue

• Repeated acts of full prostration on the grounds of Masjid Al-Aqsa, blowing the shofar, priestly dress, and public Torah prayers

• Direct participation of Israeli ministers and Knesset members in incursions, rituals, chanting, and flag displays

• Israeli police escorting settlers, clearing worshippers from incursion routes, and enabling free movement and prolonged presence

• Legal and judicial steps to protect settler incursions and restrict the removal of settlers from Masjid Al-Aqsa

Alongside the consolidation of settler presence, the occupation intensified efforts to dismantle the Islamic presence in Masjid Al-Aqsa.

I‘tikaf was banned during the first twenty days of Ramadan, including the first three Friday nights. Worshippers were forcibly expelled after ‘Isha and Tarawih prayers. Restrictions imposed since 7 October 2023 continued through checkpoints and access limitations affecting Jerusalemites, Palestinians from the 1948 territories, and the occupied West Bank, alongside the ongoing siege and war on Gaza.

On Friday 13 June 2025, the occupation fully closed Masjid Al-Aqsa under the pretext of security conditions. Entry was restricted to guards and Islamic Waqf staff, military checkpoints were erected around the Old City, and access was limited to residents only. Partial reopening with strict limits continued until 24 June 2025.

This closure represents a serious development, reflecting attempts by the occupation to control the opening and closing of Masjid Al-Aqsa and to marginalise the role of the Islamic Waqf in its administration.

The data from 2025 confirms that the assault on Masjid Al-Aqsa is no longer limited to repeated incursions or temporary violations. It has become a coordinated project aimed at imposing Jewish religious, security, and legal sovereignty, paving the way for redefining Masjid Al-Aqsa as the so called “Temple Mount”.
