@SpencerKlavan I think the biggest issue with this might be more the immersion problem the word choice creates. Prior to the 1900s the word "dad" in particular was largely considered baby talk and only really caught on as something adults said in the 20th century. So it's jarringly modern.

@rabbriansamuel I think it's an excellent exegetical tool because it gives us an idea of how the translators, and by extension the Jewish people at the time, understood the Scriptures. Translation choice is never 1:1 so there's always an element of interpretation.

The book of Hosea alone is steeped in the imagery and Israel is accused of adultery for chasing other gods. The Church is part of that, not the whole.
