@CallMeGdubG@eveofthedaleks It did as well as the Jodie specials before Flux. That's how good pretty much ever Who special bar Jodie's last three and the most recent one did. Pretty average figures for such a desperate looking event.
The replies are so satisfying
We had so many years of ‘just bring Tennant back’ and now no one thinks this is the solution anymore
In a way I’m kinda glad they did it, it failed, and now we never have to discuss it happening again
@SJWMEGATRON@KT_T0NE@zagreus_sits I didn't say it wasn't in any other era, but it is much less of a focus. Moffat said as much that it was difficult to film around the set for moments like that in GitF
@KT_T0NE@SJWMEGATRON@zagreus_sits They were always on the way out of the door and shot the same ways, there were moments but they weren't a staple in the same way
@KT_T0NE@zagreus_sits It's a general thing in that era, yeah. Love even the little things like the Doctor and Ponds opening a story playing darts and listening to music in the Tardis. Those 2 sets with their different layers allow for lots of dynamic blocking which I imagined helped justify it
@GeorgeIsLostYT It's so funny to me because you're skipping so few episodes to get to a worse jumping on point that doesn't introduce the characters and looks 10 times cheaper and more embarrassing.
people love to say "mm you can't say this anymore" but if this aired today there would be so many ofcom complaints, teary and tedious articles from the times to the telegraph, and so on
moffat’s writing either works for you or it doesn’t but you can’t say he doesn’t fundamentally understand the show and what it needs to succeed and that clearly hasn’t changed all these years later
@SpacePigFan05 Like aside from it being far better than 2 the skip series 1 thing is so funny because what are you even skipping past? it's 1 short season that you need to follow series 2-4. Like it makes sense if you wanna start with series 5 or 11 instead but why skip 1 season?
@azmatmahmood98@TrilbeeReviews@StephenArkley Didn't forget, that much is subjective though. You were arguing it's unquestionably one of the lowest points and on a lot of key and core aspects of filmmaking as an artform it simply isn't. You simply wouldn't listen if I talked about the themes or character work
Alan Moore's similar point about superheroes and the KKK was of course presicent but truly nothing made it sink in more for me than watching a plainclothes ICE guy brutalize a woman in a courthouse with an Avengers Disneyland shirt from earlier this year.
@StephenArkley@azmatmahmood98@TrilbeeReviews I didn't any more than anyone else here, literally this thread is just people saying people who like the era you hate are being dishonest and lying. But also I will be have this same opinion in 5 years, the streaming slop chic isn't gonna magically change
@GeorgeIsLostYT I feel like that's overstating it given how big the era was. It was swaths leaving and it was getting more new people in than ever internationally. I think that's just a shift from people who liked the previous way of doing the show to a new audience
@azmatmahmood98@TrilbeeReviews@StephenArkley I mean it's not, in terms of like the basics of the medium like direction, blocking, cinematography, production value it's kinda unquestionably the best. Like in very basic competency of the final product and in the art of ustilisng nthe medium there's no contest
