This year’s finish rate is an excellent 91.1% (calculated as the number of legitimate finishers divided by the number of runners crossing the start mat). That is better than I would have expected and is only behind 2023 and 2024

With just over four weeks to go until the 99th running of the iconic Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 14 June 2026, runners can now check their official Start Group and Seeding Batch allocations on the 2026 Entry List.

Seedings have been determined from fastest to slowest qualifying performances submitted for a standard marathon or equivalent longer-distance race during the qualification period.

🟪 05:00 Group 1 | Batches A–G
🟧 05:15 Group 2 | Batches H–M
🟦 05:30 Group 3 | Batches N–R

Batch H, at the front of Group 2, has been reserved for Green Number runners (10+ Comrades Marathon medals) as well as Race4Charity participants who raised more than R6000 before the 4 May deadline.

✅ All runners will still receive the full 12-hour race cut-off, with each runner’s official race time commencing when their respective Start Group begins.

The official distance for the 99th Comrades Marathon Up Run (Durban to Pietermaritzburg) on Sunday, 14 June 2026 has been confirmed as 85.777km — making it the shortest Up Run in recent history!

Route adjustments due to ongoing roadworks, including the Umlaas Road cut-through and changes to the finish at Scottsville, have helped shape a slightly shorter and more efficient course — while also improving safety and race-day operations.

🔥 With a faster route and exciting performance incentives, record-breaking runs could be on the cards once again! 💥
