As expected, you put “Muslim” in the headline so an immigration arrest would sound like a hate crime. It isn’t. They didn’t pick him because he was praying. They found a man who is here illegally, and he happened to be praying when they got there. That is a timing complaint, not a law complaint.

Should ICE have waited until he said amen? Fine. Courtesy. Then cuffs. Then a plane. He can pray in the van, in holding, on the flight, and wherever he actually has status. Freedom of religion is not a stay of removal.

Illegal is the word that matters. Country of origin doesn’t. Faith doesn’t. If your fake outrage only shows up at the arrest, you were never mad about the illegal part. Hmmm.

The First Amendment protects his faith. It does not protect his presence.
