i love this exchange because caleb never rejects the idea of them being siblings. even when mc brings up that they aren't biologically related, he brushes it aside completely. whether they're related by blood or not, he still sees them as brother and sister

NO HE DOES NOT. 😭

In the original version of Homecoming Wings, Caleb has a very obvious love-hate relationship with being her brother. And I want to be clear: he genuinely loves and values that role. The resentment only starts growing because being her brother also puts a limit on how much more he can be to her.

But despite that, it’s a role he could never actually let go of. If anything, he clings to it because it’s the one thing that gives him a place in her life. It’s basically “If I’m not her brother, then what am I to her?” 😭

So the brother role becomes both his safety and his restriction. A lifeline he clings to, even as it bruises and burns him.

But caleb will never take an L, he uses the role to his advantage to tie Mc down.

It’s literally “I’m your brother, listen to me.” He uses that role to tie MC down, but he also holds onto it because it’s a bond he genuinely treasures.

And look at the ending of Homecoming Wings. He tells her about the collar with a bell, saying he put it on the cat so it couldn’t escape without making noise. MC gets “Is this your protection?” or “Fine, I’ll let you do what you want.” And in the other version, that second option is “Fine, you’re my brother. I’ll let you do what you want.” 😭

That is NOT Caleb abandoning the brother role. It shows that even with all the conflict surrounding it, he still wants to be her brother.

The real progression is that he eventually realizes he doesn't have to choose. MC is willing to accept him as both her brother and lover. So the very thing that once felt restrictive no longer has to be a limitation.

He can keep the role he loves, keep that bond he could never let go of, and still become more to her.

That’s the point. Caleb doesn't need to abandon being her brother to become her lover. He can finally love being her brother without feeling trapped by it, because now he knows he can be both. 🙂‍↕️
