I think we are looking at this the wrong way. Let me explain. The question that was asked, was not about revelation. The question that was asked was about FFVII in general and why they make the concept of clouds love interests, vague. The question was asked do they do this so that fans can make their own choice.
Hamaguchi then does what I think is a very good job of going into detail about his own personal thoughts and feelings on this matter. But then he finishes with something very unique so pay attention.
He begins his final statement with the word, “however”. Now this is very important, because the word, “however”, is an adverb that is meant to express a contrast or a change in direction from the previous thought.
What was the previous thought?
The previous thought was in FFVII the question of clouds, romantic interest has always been vague and left to personal interpretation and is there a reason for that.
Hamaguchi starting his last line with, “however”, is indicating he’s getting ready to go into a different direction from the previous start. That is when he says.
“However, as for what will happen in revelation, I hope everyone looks forward to it and enjoys finding out.”
Did you see that?!
Hamaguchi expresses his thoughts and feelings regarding the previous thought question. But then goes into a different direction starting with the word, however, and then introduces revelation as that new direction. And then finishes with I hope everyone looks forward to it and enjoys finding out.
What Hamaguchi basically just said is, I get that in the original game as well as previous compilations. This question has been left open to player interpretation and choice and there are reasons for that however, what is going to happen in revelation is a new direction in which you will find out and I hope you look forward to it.
Case in point, revelation will give us the conclusive answer to the question who is clouds true love interest. And given all of the content that we have been given between part one and rebirth has overwhelmingly showed us the direction that they are going in in regards to clouds, love interest of which I have no doubt they are going to conclude in the way that they have already been going in fact what they have narrated is so overwhelmingly obvious that it would almost look idiotic to go in an entirely different direction so I am not only hopeful and confident that Clerith is going to get its happy ending. I am excited for what we are going to experience and without knowing what that is, I genuinely believe that is going to be exciting!
Hope that helps…
One of the most interesting moments from today's fan meeting came when Naoki Hamaguchi was asked about Cloud's romantic relationships in Final Fantasy VII. His answer may shed light on a question many fans have debated for years.
Naoki Hamaguchi says he's confident in the ending of Final Fantasy VII Revelation. They had an idea of what they wanted to do early in development.
“Obviously, I can’t share actual details on how this story is going to end, but in terms of how we envisioned the conclusion, we did have some sort of an idea of what we wanted to do at the end. So we did have a kind of direction from the early days of development...
The same goes for the producer, Yoshinori Kitase. He had his visions as well, and some of that is applied in the conclusion that we’re telling in FF7 Revelation....
To be completely honest, I think we’re pretty confident and happy with how it’s turned out. We’re very much excited to see how fans will react to the ending of the story.”
