Norwegian researchers drove a Chinese EV into a mine to cut it off from the world. It still tried to call home.

The project is called Project Lion Cage. Tor Indstøy, a Telenor security executive, monitored his own NIO ES8 SUV for years. About 90% of the connections he logged went to Chinese servers, even though NIO tells European customers their data is processed in Europe.

The car carries cameras, microphones, location tracking and always-on modems. Most traffic is encrypted, so researchers could see where it went, not what it held. That is the gap. China's National Intelligence Law requires companies to assist state intelligence work. Nobody has proven spying. The question is who can be forced to hand over the feed.

A separate test by Oslo transit operator Ruter found the Chinese Yutong bus could be reached by its maker through software updates, including battery and power systems. Yutong says it cannot control steering or brakes.

Countries buying cheap Chinese EVs should expect to ask what else comes with the price.

Is a lower sticker price worth putting a Chinese-controlled sensor on every street?

🚨 BREAKING: U.S. intelligence says Russia has launched a new campaign to interfere in the November midterm elections.

According to The New York Times, citing classified U.S. intelligence reports, the Kremlin has authorized another disinformation operation aimed at sowing chaos, deepening divisions, and undermining trust inside American society.

So far, researchers say much of the content is targeting Democratic candidates in competitive races.

Russia is increasingly using AI to manufacture fake videos and posts designed to look like reports from CNN, BBC, and The New York Times. Candidates are falsely accused of corruption, antisemitism, and other inflammatory positions.

One fabricated video falsely attributed comments criticizing Democrats over transgender policy to actress Jamie Lee Curtis. The claim was debunked — but not before the fake post reportedly received nearly 200,000 views on X.

Researchers detected two waves of this activity in just the past week. Graphika has linked it to the Russian influence operation known as “Overload,” or “Matryoshka.”

U.S. intelligence has not found evidence that Russia is attempting to hack election infrastructure or directly compromise the voting process.

But researchers warn the information operation is accelerating.

Graphika senior researcher Jean Le Roux:

“I don’t think they’re going to stop.”

Russia is coming for American minds again — not with tanks, but with AI-generated lies, fake news reports, and manufactured outrage.

And the closer America gets to November, the louder it may become.
