Supreme Court Advocate on Record Association (SCAORA) has unequivocally condemned the threats and targeted online vilification of ADJ Tabassum Khan. The Higher Judiciary must provide institutional protection to judges of district courts for independence of judiciary.
Can the rise of Hindutva be linked to the failures of the Nehruvian liberal elite?
Historian Romila Thapar discusses this and more in conversation with @samzsays

A Brahmin temple priest and his family beat lower-caste Hindus Ramdeen Diwakar (Dhobi) and Pappu Paswan with sticks for bathing in the Ganga at a temple ghat in Maharajpur, Kanpur.
So much for Hindu unity.

A Salute to the Crusader of Social Justice : Thiru. Shibu Soren (1944–2025)
********************************************
Thiru. Shibu Soren, Dishom Guru, a titan of social justice, a fierce tribal rights activist, and one of India’s most transformative leaders. His demise marks not only the end of a political epoch, but also a profound moment of reflection for all those who continue to strive for equality, dignity, and justice for the marginalized.
He dedicated his entire life fighting against the systemic exploitation, injustice, and a lifelong crusader for the rights of tribal and marginalized communities. From founding the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha @JmmJharkhand (JMM) in 1973 to his pivotal role in the creation of the state of Jharkhand in 2000, he stood as a relentless voice for the voiceless.
His role in shaping transformative legislations like the Forest Rights Act (2006) and Land Acquisition Act (2013), and his tenures as Chief Minister, Union Minister, and Parliamentarian, reflected a life devoted not to office, but to upliftment.
His simplicity, courage, and clarity of purpose made him a beacon of leadership rooted in social justice. His governance includes the voices of the last and the least. In his passing, India has lost one of its most authentic champions of Social Justice and tribal rights.
All India Federation for Social Justice (AIFSJ) extend our heartfelt condolences to Thiru. Hemant Soren @HemantSorenJMM , Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Tmt. Kalpana Soren @JMMKalpanaSoren , and the entire bereaved family. As fellow travellers in the fight for social justice, we grieve not just a leader, but a guiding light.
Thiru. Shibu Soren leaves behind a legacy that will echo through generations.
May his soul rest in peace.
May his vision of Social justice live on.
@aifsoj
I participated in the Social Justice Conference in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, organised by OBC Mahasabha, the Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch, and the Gandhiwadi Sangam of Madhya Pradesh along with @digvijaya_28@AshokSingh_INC@AdvRajendraPal@BaraiyaINC. The conference aimed to advocate for installing a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar inside the Madhya Pradesh High Court Gwalior Bench, as permitted by the Hon. Chief Justice of the MP High Court.
During my speech, I condemned the fringe elements obstructing this process through influential individuals within the system. Those opposing the statue are not just against Ambedkar but against social justice. They fear a judiciary that reflects diversity. They fear the power of memory—because remembering Ambedkar prompts us to question hierarchy, oppression, and power. Let us not forget that these are the same forces that denied entry to women and Dalits in temples, burned Ambedkar's writings, questioned reservations, and remained silent when atrocities occurred. Their opposition is not cultural; it is political.
I declared that I would serve as a soldier and warrior in the fight to install the statue, emphasising that I come from the land of @mkstalin, a leader in social justice. I quoted Dr. Ambedkar's words: “However good a Constitution may be, if those who are called to work it happen to be a bad lot, it will fail. On the other hand, a Constitution, however bad, maybe good if those who are called to work are called to work, and it happens to be a good lot.”
I praised the installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue at the #SupremeCourtofIndia and appealed for his statue to be installed in all High Courts.
I highlighted the diversity deficit within the High Court and Supreme Court, which adversely affects our equality and the representation of our voices in crucial matters.
I called on the government, @DrMohanYadav51, and @DGP_MP to provide police protection for installing the statue at the earmarked location inside the Madhya Pradesh High Court Gwalior Bench.

My zero hour speech in Parliament today on Manipulated Roaster system followed by DOPT to suppress marginalised communities from entering mainstream positions such as heads of organizations and secretaries of the department.
******************************************
Thank you, Deputy Chairman Sir.
There is deliberate tinkering of the Department of Personnel and Training reservation roster system used in public employment within the Union Government and its agencies. This manipulation has systematically deprived Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of their rightful representation in public employment and also to head the Government organisations.
Reservation was introduced as an instrument of social justice to ensure fair representation for historically marginalized communities, and the reservation roster is a crucial component in implementing this policy. However, the reservation roster, as outlined in the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) Office Memorandum dated 2.7.1997, is fundamentally flawed. The issues continued with the subsequent memorandum dated January 31, 2019. These anomalies have resulted in the wrongful excess allocation of posts to Unreserved (UR) candidates at the expense of reserved categories.
For example, according to the 2019 memorandum:
- In the 13-point model roster, 9 out of 13 posts (including 1 EWS) are assigned to Unreserved candidates instead of the rightful 6—an unjust gain of 3 additional posts.
- In Departments/organizations with only 2 sanctioned posts, both positions are assigned to Unreserved candidates, completely eliminating representation for reserved candidates.
- In a cadre strength of 6, five positions are allocated to Unreserved candidates instead of the appropriate 3.
- In small cadres (with less than 10 posts):- 70% of posts in a cadre of 10 are assigned to Unreserved candidates instead of the correct 50.5%.
- 83% of posts in a cadre of 6 are assigned to Unreserved candidates instead of the correct 50.5%.
- 100% of posts in a cadre of 3 are assigned to Unreserved candidates, completely eliminating reservation.
These data’s furnished by me are not mere statistical discrepancies; they are systematic efforts to eliminate reserved candidates and favor Unreserved candidates, which constitutes a direct violation of the constitutional mandate for social justice. The first roster point, which carries significant importance, has been exclusively assigned to Unreserved candidates across all government institutions, leading to a deliberate distortion that ensures SC, ST, and OBC candidates are denied fair representation in Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts.
Sir, to perpetuate an error is a sin, but to correct it is an administrative duty. The existing roster system represents a structured deception designed to suppress the rightful opportunities of marginalized communities, preventing them from entering mainstream positions such as heads of organizations and secretaries of the department. This constitutes a constitutional betrayal and an ongoing injustice that has persisted for decades.
I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and Hon’ble Minister of State for Personal Pensions and Public Grievances to take immediate action to end this rigged reservation system and form a high-level committee with a retired supreme court judge from the disadvantage communities as Chairperson along with members ensuring proportionate representation from SC,ST, OBC and Unreserved categories to investigate the scam and devise a fair roster system. This committee should identify the total losses suffered by reserved categories since 1997 in public employment, recommend measures to compensate for these losses through additional recruitment drives, and propose solutions to ensure that SC, ST, and OBC candidates have fair and equal opportunities to lead government organizations atleast in future.
@mkstalin@Udhaystalin@aifsoj@arivalayam
@PWilsonDMK This is the first time I heard a word in the house concerning increasing annual family income in pre&post matric scholarships, good work.
@PWilsonDMK@mkstalin@Udhaystalin@arivalayam@aifsoj May Chief Minister Stalin have a year filled with good health, happiness, and continued success in serving the people of Tamil Nadu. Wishing him strength and prosperity in all his endeavors!
Has Governor Thiru R.N. Ravi lost his mind? He is a disgrace to the post of Governor. His tendency to constantly confront the Government of Tamil Nadu & the Hon. CM and engage in an ideological and political battle with the DMK has shown that he is unfit to hold constitutional office. If he is so keen to be a politician, he should resign and contest elections.
It is ironic that stooges of an organisation that did not hoist the national flag for 52 years are giving Tamil Nadu a lecture on patriotism. For us, India and Tamil Nadu are like our two eyes - both are equally important and we do not hurt one to please the other. It is about time you learn that Mr. Ravi.
Mr. Ravi, you have no standing to speak about the Constitution when you have insulted constitutional morality and decorum at every turn. Even the Hon. Supreme Court has to rap your knuckles to put you in place and ask you to do your job!
I am surprised to see government servants at the Raj Bhavan aiding the illegal acts of R.N. Ravi. They should be reminded that their employer is the Government of Tamil Nadu and criticism of the Government of Tamil Nadu or its policies is a ground for dismissal of a government servant as per the conduct rules in force.
Academic institutions should be secular in the strict sense, if allowed the space for propagation or promotion of a religious or an ideological identity, it will inculcate non scientific temperament amongst young minds. Prof Gautam & Sharma have rightly corrected him @ABESEC032
Mamata Gautam, a teacher from ABES Engineering college in Ghaziabad expelled a student from stage for greeting audience with "Jai Shree Ram". The student was about to perform at the College Cultural Fest.
@ABESEC032 should explain Bharat me Jai Shree Ram nahi bolenge to kya Pakistan me bolenge?
