Interesting to see people nostalgic for 1985, but the very reason 1985 felt good made what we have in 2025 inevitable. US was coming out of stagflation and Reagan deregulated everything. Property prices were low. Growth and optimism were in the air. That's why it felt good

People are saying that this message didn't come through from the movie but she never said this is the main message? The movie is more asking questions than advocating for any specific priority in a partner. This is just her personal rebuke of a reductionist reading of the film
@kindadidittho she wasn't saying this was the main message of the story; she just thought the reduction of john's character to just being poor and (impliedly lazy and unambitiuos) was problematic
@kindadidittho No it is not the main focus, but it is definitely part of the story. John and harry are both distinctly different individuals, and it's not simple to say whether one is a better partner than the other. That comment was specifically deriding John for being poor, hence the callout
