Oceanographer interested in all things marine carbon | coral aficionado | X-ray µCT geek | Post-Doc @LivUni looking at the Biological Carbon Pump in ESMs
So lucky as an Oceanographer and Marine Scientist to have finally met one of the loudest voices speaking for our oceans. It was truly an honour @SirDavidBBC
Interested in conservation, corals, & predictive modelling? 🪸

Really enjoyed giving my first conference talk at #RCUK2022@ReefConsUK this morning! Please come and find me in the any of the breaks to talk all things machine learning and reef sediment classification! 🪸🔬🤩 @NHM_Corals
Fortunate to see first hand our colleagues at UNHAS Makassar eager to instil science-based policies to safeguard reefs on the densely populated islands of the Spermonde Archipelago. Conservation is a socioeconomic and cultural challenge. @4D_REEF
Thanks to @TriesRazak for the brilliant talk and showing @4D_REEF how reef restoration projects have evolved in Indonesia.Takeaway: Many in place, but a successful reef restoration project must ensure long term maintenance to go beyond transient farming and transplantation.
The postdoc on offer with @coralmannie on northwest Australian corals will benefit from exquisite coral cores obtained by the @aims_gov_au from a bullseye location with the Indonesian Throughflow exiting through the Timor Strait. Apply here until Oct 31st: https://t.co/lJcAp3sJVm
Finally in the field! A number of our ESRs are in the coral triangle, Indonesia, Spermonde, to study the local turbid reefs. Thanks to our local partner Hasanuddin University @officialfikpuh for the great cooperation. It's great to get out there! #Fieldwork
That’s not an asteroid headed towards Earth. But holds information as impactful and yet to be unlocked 🤓
X-ray microCT of Porites head collected back in 1899 near Binongko Is., Indonesia. From @museumnaturalis collection @4D_REEF@NHM_Corals@UoBEarthScience
Today marked the first gathering of the #BristolSummerCoralGang. Glad to supervise a keen group of undergrads who will be delving into coral skeletons that are part of my @4D_REEF@NHM_Corals research this summer. Thanks to @UoBEarthScience and @GW4plusDTP for supporting them
Come check my poster 076 @ICRS_2022 on the potential of using AI for automating coral density banding detection and challenges ahead. Full📃 at https://t.co/9WhnA5ic9y. Shout out to all my co-authors, @4D_REEF and @BristolUni for the support.
Bumped into dear friends from my MSc at #ICRS2022. Not having wigs or hats didn’t stop us from being creative in the photo booth. 🪸🐠🐠
Guess who’s spawning?? @ThinkDeepReef@catiemitchell@ColinLuigi
@IMBRSea @NORCEresearch@UiBmatnat Biogeochemical Timescales of Climate Change Onset and Recovery in the North Atlantic Interior Under Rapid Atmospheric CO2 Forcing

How the North Atlantic could react if subjected to a steep 4x-Pre-industrial CO2 increase followed by mirrored mitigation?
Proudly published my @IMBRSea MSc work in JGR-Oceans. Huge shout-out to my supervisor Jerry and @NORCEresearch while I was based at @UiBmatnat
Ever wondered whether microplastics get in the way of corals’ capacity to shed reef sediments? This and some more cool results in our paper just out in @SciReports! 🍾 https://t.co/hZTggeJKNX
@ana_sampe @NHM_Corals@BristolUni@4D_REEF Thx Ana! We'll get there someday🙏 AI can give it a push. But, given how our beloved corals have such complex banding and sometimes even hiatuses or stress bands, accounting for those will still require specialists to pick on those quirks, which is good (cuz jobs u know)😅🤓
Excited to announce the first part of our research on the prospects of detecting coral density banding using AI is out. A huge thanks to all collaborators at @NHM_Corals and @BristolUni and to @4D_REEF for the support.
