We want to see Leon high schoolers live to graduate and join us in college, which is why we are proudly supporting a week of action organized by and for students to #DemandSafeSchools! Join SSS for today’s social media blast!! Contacts below ⬇️
@LeonSchools It is fully within our power to reopen on a fully digital platform with accommodations for the students who depend on in-person school. Be proactive today, so that we don’t have to mourn in a few weeks. The extra time will be worth our safety.
#RedForEd No teacher, administrator, or student should be forced to return to in-person schooling until it is safe to do so. Making the irresponsible decision to reopen brick and mortar will leave us with even more devastation in the coming weeks. #firstnineonline
The long term damage from COVID is still relatively unknown. There’s also the factor of guilt and trauma after transmitting the virus to an older family member that dies. It’s not just the youth mortality rate we need to consider when reopening schools.
We often hear the question: “Well kids are less likely to die from COVID, what’s the harm in sending them to brick and mortar then?” but this idea seriously misunderstands the fact that COVID is a PUBLIC HEALTH issue.
We say this a lot, but once again: COLLECTIVE ISSUES REQUIRE COLLECTIVE SOLUTIONS. Just because younger people are less likely to DIE does not mean their presence in crowded schools is harmless. The more total people infected, the higher possibility that someone else will die.
Safety and security trumps needing to see friends at school. Let’s reopen on a completely digital platform to protect our kids #first9online#OnlyWhenItsSafe
