The Shah of Iran told Fox News this week what everyone has been calling on for months - Arm the Iranian people, and use frozen Iranian funds to do so.

This is a bigger deal than you might think.

He used careful wording like "equipment" rather than "weapons", but he did not refute Fox News when they asked how to arm and train the Iranian people. He clearly stated Iranians are the boots on the ground, and that January massacre proved there must be a change to level the playing field.

"If there is a will, there is a way".

In other words, the Shah appears to be officially and publicly on board with arming the Iranian people. The reason this matters is because millions of people inside Iran will readily take to the street at his call, as was proven in January. This mobilisation power combined with the means for self defence is a game changer.

Why now? Why did he not say anything earlier?

If I have to guess, my theory is that he didn't want to offer false hope or expectations in the past. But chances are that now, an arming plan is already in motion, and he can speak more openly about it. A lot of his work happens behind the scenes, and it might be coming to fruition now.
