@thehoffather If moderates don’t like it then maybe they should’ve tried harder to stop Trump and his fascist takeover of practically everything. They were the ones in charge of the party when we lost. And they’ve put up almost no fight since. Schumer and Jeffries just hide in their offices.
@admcrlsn He knows he needs a bunch of $$$ from the billionaires who oppose this for his upcoming presidential campaign so he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth. Typical centrist Dem. They talk about revolution until it costs them money.
@Jonathan_K_Cook Yeah because what tech bro needs the kinder, gentler form of oligarchy practiced by the the centrist liberals like Labour or the U.S. Democrats when you can just vote in Trump (or Farage in the UK) and get the real unvarnished, Jack booted fascism that you always wanted, right?
@FareedZakaria The centrist liberal Dems don’t fight for us because they are paid not to, mostly by the same people who pay the Republicans. They’re the kinder, more gentle face of oligarchy, but taking us down the same path nonetheless. People figured that out, hence the rise of Mamdani, et al
@RonBrownstein The Supreme Court is basically an unelected legislature now. The major problem that I see is that Trump may very well enshrine himself as a dictator between now and 2028 and this court won’t stop him.
@PanasonicDX4500 Whoever wrote it is absolutely right. Too bad Hunter didn’t show this kind of clarity and outspokenness during his dads last days in office.
@ThatchEffendi@CathyYoung63 I think the biggest consequence for Rod is he no longer has a cushy no show job like he had when Orban and his thugs ran the show. Sucks to have to put in an honest days work again instead of just being paid to shit on gays, libs and browns while enjoying haughty gourmet food.
@MarkSZaidEsq The problem with many “moderate” Dems is not their political stance but their failure to do anything to stop Trump. It’s because most take $ from those who want to preserve the status quo. So they talk a good game while campaigning, then disappear when it comes time for action.
@billmaher I don’t see ol Bill complaining about Regan, Bush or Nixon’s libraries, but apparently only Republican presidents are worthy of such monuments in his eyes…
@TheEconomist So what has all this GDP gotten us Americans? Europeans live 3-4 years longer and suffer fewer chronic diseases and disabilities. They are thinner, happier and don’t suffer the kind of pointless gun violence, drug use and homelessness that are rampant here. So who’s really ahead?
I love Pope Leo, he’s taken Pope Francis message of love and charity and put it on blast. And he’s absolutely right here. There’s so much more to church tradition than rules about sex. But you’d never know it because conservatives have weaponized them to serve their own purposes.
Pope Leo XIV says that the Catholic Church’s teaching on sexual ethics must be less prioritized over “greater, more important issues.”
“We tend to think that when the Church is talking about morality, that the only issue of morality is sexual. And in reality, I believe there are much greater, more important issues, such as justice, equality, freedom of men and women, freedom of religion, that would all take priority before that particular issue.”
@JillFilipovic The problem is Dems went from the working class party to that of educated professionals and elites: former country club Republicans turned off by redecks and evangelicals. They are socially liberal but conservative on economics: they like revolution unless it raises their taxes.
@kylegriffin1 Nobody thought the gutting of the Voting Rights Act would pass muster either, but the conservatives made pretty quick work of it now didn’t they? People expect them to act like a traditional court who respects precedent, but they don’t give a shit. All they care about is power.
@kylegriffin1 It is unconstitutional, for now. But I have no doubt the Supreme Court will make it legal in some mysterious shadow docket opinion that drops late on a Friday night after the press and anyone else who could summon even a smidge of accountability has gone home for the weekend.
@chriswithans UCs are watering down admissions standards because of demographics, not politics. The number of high school graduates peaked last year at 3.9 million and will go sharply down for the next 15 years. The UC will either have to admit lower achieving students or close campuses.
@atrupar That’s a lot of tall talk from a guy who makes billions from leeching off of taxpayers. Not sure how that contributes to our GDP…But apparently talking out of both sides of your mouth like that makes you a genius these days.
@ChrisCillizza Well, the Republicans nominated someone who led a violent coup attempt against our government and it seems like it turned out pretty well for them, right? But yeah, the Dems nominating a guy with a questionable tattoo who creeped out a couple of women is just so much worse…
@ZaidJilani The Dem establishment doesn’t like Platner because he believes in his populist ideas and will actually try to make them reality, unlike the neoliberals who take $$ from oligarchs, then make promises they won’t keep so they can keep that $$ flowing. Voters are tired of this scam.
