EDO POLICE ARREST OLUCHI AND SYNDICATE FOR STAGED KIDNAPPING, RECOVERS FIREARM USED IN RANSOM VIDEOS

The Edo State Police Command has uncovered a carefully orchestrated kidnapping scam and arrested four suspects who conspired to fraudulently obtain Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) as ransom from unsuspecting family members through a fabricated abduction plot.

On 1st June, 2026, one Mr. Tony Ugbowan of Agbor Road, Benin City, reported at the Command that his wife, Mrs. Oluchi Ugbowan, aged 45 years, had been kidnapped on her way to her shop at Ramat Park along Agbor Road. He explained that on 28th May, 2026, he received a call from a concealed telephone number demanding a ransom of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) for her release.

Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced a discreet investigation, deploying both intelligence and technical resources to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnap. Thorough investigation led to the arrest of one Israel Ability, male, aged 28 years, at Ramat Park, Agbor Road, Benin City. During his arrest, the mobile phone belonging to the purported victim was recovered from him. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had been contracted by Mrs. Oluchi Ugbowan to negotiate ransom with her family while falsely presenting her as a kidnapped victim.

Further investigation subsequently led operatives on 5th June, 2026, to a hotel in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, where Mrs. Oluchi Ugbowan was arrested. During interrogation, she confessed to staging her own kidnapping and thereafter led investigators to the residence of an accomplice in Delta State, one Ochukwudem Uwadia, male, aged 38 years.

Investigation revealed that the residence was used as the location where videos depicting the victim with tied hands and feet were recorded and circulated to family members as proof of captivity. The suspect further disclosed that Uwadia's son, Chibuzor Ochukwudem, male, aged 18 years, was the individual seen in the videos pointing a firearm at her head in order to further lend credibility to the false kidnapping narrative.

All suspects connected to the criminal conspiracy have been arrested. A search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of an automatic pump-action gun used in the ransom videos.

EFCC Arraigns Blessing CEO for Alleged N69.1m Fraud Case as Court Grants N10m Bail in Separate Matter

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, again arraigned a social media influencer and self-acclaimed relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, also known as Blessing CEO, for an alleged N69,150,000 (Sixty-Nine Million, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) fraud. She was arraigned before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. Nkiruka was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N69,150,000. At the commencement of the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, C. C. Okezie, urged the court to proceed with the arraignment, arguing that the defendant had been duly served with the charge. However, the defence counsel, Nkama Nneka, informed the court that service of the charge had only recently been effected. In his ruling, Justice Oshodi held that the arraignment should proceed in accordance with the law, hence the charges were subsequently read to the defendant. The Nigerian Air Force carried out a devastating strike on a terrorist convoy near Cross Kauwa and Ali Sherti in northern Borno State, targeting what appeared to be an insurgent staging area used for logistics and the planning of attacks.

The operation resulted in the destruction of multiple vehicles and the neutralization of several terrorists who were attempting to regroup within the Lake Chad axis.

The mission began on June 6 when an ISR platform established persistent surveillance over a suspected terrorist enclave at Cross Kauwa. The location exhibited significant signs of insurgent activity.

Peter Obi while trying to discourage sterotypeing completely missed the mark.

"As an Igbo man, I have endured stereotypes, judgment, and labelling solely based on my ethnic origins". My goodness the hypocr'sy.

Now, has he criticized or cautioned the Igbos who also show discrimination towards other ethinicities online? No, I am yet to see that. His now running mate Kwankwaso faced a lot of backlash during the last elections with many throwing shades towards the Northerners as a whole. Did he speak up then? No.

If I also remember correctly, there was a time someone (Gaius Chibueze) who is known as Bitcoin Chief pledged millions to anyone who can show or name a non-indigene that has landed property in the South-East, and till date, no-one could name a single person to claim that money, which is over N10m. That speaks volumes. But the Igbos own lands across the nation.

Again let's not forget the JAMB saga involving Mmesoma and how many people were quick to make it a Yoruba issue, and later kept silent when it turned out that she lied. Isn't that another discrimination towards another region?

This is the same Obi who is yet to clear his name in regards to the Yes Daddy phonecall that raises questions of religious bigotry, which is another form of sterotype.

Addressing the issue and using your ethnicity to make a point when you haven't called out some of your own people who do the same is the height of hypocrisy.

This is a Nigerian problem, not perculiar to the Igbos or Fulanis; Every opportunity shouldn't be turned into a campaign tactic and if you must address an issue, don't be bias.
