I ended up watching The Island with Bear Grylls after seeing these clips of the men vs women experiment online. The clips are funny, but they leave out some of the most fascinating parts.

At one point the women were starving and came across a mother pig and two piglets. Their first instinct was to make the piglets their pets. 😂 They did eventually eat them, but it was emotionally grueling for them.

Another interesting difference was their different approaches to leadership and organization. The women resisted it because they valued consensus, equality and cooperation. They did not want someone declaring herself superior and ordering everyone around. The men created a hierarchy and leadership early on, but it led to some conflict when some men were seen as not contributing to their survival efforts.

Obviously it’s just reality TV, but it’s a fun watch and a fascinating little Lord of the Flies glimpse into how groups of men and women think and behave so differently.
