@shenlulushen I talked to all companions that I still have contact info today. Women companions are under greater economic pressure because many work full time and have no alternative income sources. Some were angry that platforms deleted their "skill recognition" without any explanation.
Thanks Shen Lu for exposing the labor conditions of game companions! There are also other types of gig game platforms in China and I estimate the total platform game workforce to be over 10 million.
My study on diaspora Chinese activists and their interactions with social movements in democracies is published @CritSoc. I am indebted to all activists who were willing to share their experiences and continue to offer me a great deal of inspirations. https://t.co/OxH126q7Rl
Great essay synthesizing various anti-racism activism as well as pointing out legal barriers for Chinese students to support BLM. For those who read Chinese there is a more comprehensive version: https://t.co/4ydA4yJCos
Great paper by Yueran Zhang with Theory and Society! Friends who are interested in the different ideological habitus of the Chinese state should definitely read this cutting-edge analysis. https://t.co/IDhopLt2cA
@alexchow18@lausanhk@Samuel_CKY Fantastic! I look forward to future discussion of black power and pan-africanism cos they have a more direct connection with diaspora politics and transnationalism.
Should mention Telegram Channels and Bots which are not available for other encrypted apps. Group chat is never the key feature that makes TG distinct in protest mobilization.
Please consider supporting @marcusbooks in Oakland - the oldest independent Black bookstore in the country. Let's step up for them! https://t.co/vmSqsVUQRg
@jordanschneider I agree overall US protesters have higher trust in the resilience of the political system. So unlike HK people, perhaps most participants haven't felt the urgency to develop tactics and organizing networks to counter the weakness of spontaneous participation.
