Galatians 5:13-16 But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
Galatians 5:13-16 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
“A man who first tried to guess 'what the public wants,' and then preached that as Christianity because the public wants it, would be a pretty mixture of fool and knave.” C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer
Godly leaders aren't afraid to get their hands dirty doing the hard work. Leadership doesn't have perks, it has responsibilities. Remember John 13. Jesus was willing to do the work of a servant to lead his disciples. How low will we go?
Augustine: “People love truth when it shines on them and hate it when it rebukes them. For, because they are not willing to be deceived but definitely want to practice the art of deception, they love truth when it reveals itself and hate it when it reveals them.” Confessions
Matthew 7:1-5 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
Matthew 7:1-5 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"
Matthew 6:23-24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."
Matthew 6:23-24 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!"
Often it is easier to recognize error in others-–while denying it in ourselves. As Jesus reminds us in the Gospels, we should deal with the plank in our own eyes before we try to remove the speck from the eyes of others.
"The Gospel writers are trying to teach us to become more interesting people--by teaching us be more interesting readers." Richard Hays from "Echoes of Scripture in the Gospels"
