@Grady_Booch No GPU? Plenty of compute nodes working parallel, a good hunk of which are involved in image processing & object recognition; others in deductive reasoning. But yeah, I don't see any melted sand being electrocuted either.
@Grady_Booch Reminds me of when the Florida head office wanted the Washington state branch office to take some safety training. Nothing about earthquake or volcano drills, but they were very concerned that we didn't feed any alligators.
@ID_AA_Carmack Never thought about no radios in original War of the worlds. The part stuck in my head is they had walking tripods b/c the idea of the wheel never occurred to them.
@the_thagomizer For some reason this reminds me of teaching martial arts. "If you do this, you may encounter one of several responses, each of which could lead to multiple counter-moves you could try, and then there's some bail-out moves in case the unexpected happens.
Beautiful #newyorker article on the emotional impact of trading the craftsmanship of hand-coding vs. the productivity gain that comes with AI assistants. Reminds me of how wood and metal workers might have felt as mass production took hold. https://t.co/ueasAALZuH
