The EU is boosting its aerial firefighting capacity under #rescEU, the EU's strategic crisis response reserve.

€600 million in EU funds will be used to purchase 12 new planes, which will be hosted by Croatia, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Spain. ↓

A plane has crashed on the 🇬🇷 Evia island while combating a wildfire. Both crew members have lost their lives.

This is the worst reminder of how first responders put their lives in danger to save others and our environment.

My thoughts are with their families and colleagues.

Yesterday, 64 new fires started in Greece.

In Rhodes, evacuations continue, including mostly tourists.

#EUCivilProtection response: 424 firefighters and 104 vehicles operating in different regions of the country.
