In Jazz there is the term contrafact
It’s essentially sampling as you take a prior piece of music & make new songs
The most famous song to be used was Gershwin’s “I got rhythm”
The Duke,Bird,Monk, & Davis made countless songs from that. 100s songs made from that piece
Paging through Leonard Feather’s 70’s encyclopedia. The Quincy Jones intro is fantastic. That deserves a reprint. Some of the blindfold tests raise a smile. See thread:
“I never even thought about whether or not they understand what I’m doing… the emotional reaction is all that matters. As long as there’s some feeling of communication, it isn’t necessary that it be understood.” - John Coltrane
65 years ago today, Miles Davis released 'Kind of Blue.' Revered as a classic work, and inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 1992. Today we celebrate its lasting legacy within the jazz world and beyond. 🎺❤️
