When Trump pulled out of the international nuclear agreement with Tehran in 2018, Iran lacked even a single bomb's worth of uranium. Since then, it accumulated 22,000 pounds of enriched uranium. @BlackiLi@WilliamJBroad https://t.co/r8pPDoXqgh
The UAE exploring a swap line with the US should give us pause that the consequences of the Iran conflict are far greater than what we see priced in markets. Such explorations do not arise lightly, even behind closed doors.
Whoever ends up controlling the Strait of Hormuz once the guns fall silent will be the winner of the war. So far, it looks like Iran is on a path to strategic victory. My analysis (from the shores of the strait) in @WSJ

Bloomberg: Trump administration officials are examining what a potential spike in oil prices as high as $200 a barrel would mean for the economy, according to people familiar with the matter, a sign senior officials are studying the possible fallout from extreme scenarios for the Iran war.

Yale Budget Lab Exec. Dir. @marthagimbel on the shrinking appeal of U.S. debt: "We are currently the boyfriend at the beginning of the Hallmark movie in the big city, where the girlfriend is still going out with him even though she knows that it's wrong."
One nightmare scenario, in particular for America’s Gulf partners now bearing the brunt of Iranian attacks, is that the U.S. and Israel would stop, then Iran would continue harassing strikes to cow these oil-rich monarchies into submission. The fear is that Tehran will try to pressure them to expel U.S. bases and sever their dependence on an America that failed to protect them.
“There are many dangers. A wounded, angry Iran is not the best-case scenario for the Gulf states. While the U.S. has to a large degree castrated Iran in terms of its ability to attack Israel, this gives Iran only one other option: to attack the Gulf states and to weaponize the Strait of Hormuz,” said Dania Thafer, executive director of the Gulf International Forum think tank. “Militarily speaking, the U.S. is on the winning side. But politically speaking, the U.S. and Israel have really gotten nowhere when it comes to Iran.” @Dr_DaniaThafer

Watched the German and German-led NATO troops march through Lithuania’s city of Kaunas yesterday, in a message of deterrence to Russia. (If push comes to shove, I’d run with the Norwegian unit here.)
What is happening in the Twin Cities and the Great North Star State is heartbreaking to witness. These events have cost lives and shaken families — and we must call for accountability, transparency, and protections for all people. This moment demands that we reflect honestly on what our values truly are. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the families of Renée Good and Alex Pretti.

This is a pretty incredible chart. In just ten years, we went from predictions of steadily rising carbon emissions to predictions of steadily falling emissions.
Climate change is beatable.
