I saw a post on Reddit that said that “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.” And I don’t think I’ve ever seen AI described so incisively.
@naive_melody_1 the people i know who don't pay attention to the news also seem pretty damn miserable. turns out that it's easy to ignore the news, but a lot harder to ignore everything getting ten times more expensive as a direct result of said news
The FBI raided and arrested 7 pro-Palestine activists this morning for their involvement in student organizing at UMich. They are still targeting the student movement. Please spread the word about this. Donate to the legal fund in this thread
@jpbrammer Most people don’t struggle with reading books because they ‘can’t focus,’ they struggle because everything else in life is optimized to compete with sustained attention.
It doesn't matter if the politician who wins is from "your team", if they break their promises they have to be pressured to make good on them. We shouldn't let slightly improved welfare dazzle us, there is nothing socialist about reinforcing the capitalist police state.
I'm finally reading Dune. This quote, which is in the first few pages, hits hard:
"Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."
As a brown girl watching atla back in 2005 and suddenly when the episode ended my dad would take over the TV switch to Al Jazeera and we were watching the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and my dad was like ”it’s like the cartoon you watch but real life”
i like how their first instinct is "it’s fake food" and not "it’s poor quality produce that wasn’t conserved properly in the supply chain" so now instead of advocating for better food regulations they just spat out conspiracy theories online
ie, why was Katniss forced to go through the Hunger Games again even though she won the first time?
Because the way she won was by using the rules of the games to embarrass the judges and choose humanity instead of killing others as the leaders demanded.
South Africa and Palestine embarrassed the major colonial powers by using their own court against them. So those colonial powers are lashing out.
@Y40IFRQTTING@JungAristotle Kinda sad because people also use celebs as an argument to why people should not study when they are basically the 6 lucky retards of society.
And yes I still think the best pop culture allegory for Americans is Capitol citizens in the Hunger Games series.
Capitol citizens are punished with horrific brutality for disobedience and left to fend for themselves if poor, but they are still privileged and still complicit.
@liminalspacelvr Everyone wanna play social justice warrior until it comes to actually protecting members of their close community and having any accountability outside of guilt. Sorry you’re dealing with this 🩷 You will find so many queers that will help you lovingly and gladly. Screw these ppl
