@MusselburghRFC I had dealings with John, away from rugby.
He was a kind, pleasant most obliging man.
I will miss him and send my condolences to all the family.
@goeastlothian@mcmillwynd Yes, great golf courses but the blurb is a little misleading. The clubs mentioned in the Royal Musselburgh section all played at Musselburgh Old Course, not the 'new' course at Prestongrange House, which is, of course the home of the venerable Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.
@TrenchTrotter I've seen same in and around our town garden and have seen hedgehogs at times. Haven't seen a weasel or stoat nearby, more usually in the countryside.
@NicolaGourlay3@CliveWardauthor My Mother's cousin was an Able Seaman on the Invincible, perhaps they knew eachother. Although, my Grandfather was a Stoker and, apparently, they preferred to socialise with the Marines as opposed to naval ratings.
@TrenchTrotter Your reference to Oxton made me think of my ancestors village of the same name in Berwickshire, in the parish of Channelkirk . They lost their schoolmaster in WW1, along with his brother. Sadly, their father, a schoolmaster in the village over the hill died the following year.
@TrenchTrotter I was there 7 years ago today, at the approximate time of the Manchesters attack on the canal. A French official read a commemoration speech and then asked for a volunteer to read the English version. I was privileged to seize the opportunity.
@BonnyriggRose I recall someone with the same name from the Cubs/Scouts who joined the merchant navy, same person? He'd be in his 80s now so perhaps I'm doing this Raymond a disservice.
@TrenchTrotter Need to go for the Cameronian badge with the big star. One of my great uncles fell wearing that.
The Gordon's stag is very impressive, would that be your choice or do you have family connections with others?
@SunDevilaunt@authorpetermay I was the opposite Hillary. I discovered Peter's 'Hebrides' picture book with photos by David Wilson in a cottage in Ness several years ago. After that I sought out his books. 2 further visits have given me a greater appreciation of his novels set on the islands.
@Madass77@authorpetermay Stick with it Craig, I enjoyed it. Probably wouldn't have picked it based on the setting and not knowing the author. However, having read most of Peter's other books, and enjoyed them, I was happy to read this one.
@ianebbage1@EdinburghNats@birdinglothian There are at least 2 similar looking birds hanging around with the Canadas on the Esk in the middle of Musselburgh. There are also Greylags nearby so I would think that they're crosses.
