I am proud to share my latest article on RealAgriculture, with the hope that it ignites meaningful dialogue. Too often in agriculture, we bury our heads in the sand, prioritizing the defense of our individual silos or even silencing other voices to safeguard our turf over advancements that benefit the industry as a whole.
Persistent challenges continue to emerge without resolution. We speak of collaboration, yet it frequently serves merely as a checkbox exercise. This is not about the canola farmer or the wheat farmer, it is about the farmer. It is not about preserving our petty fiefdoms, but about safeguarding the collective realm.

PMRA is broken in Canada. The everything is bad mentality is harming Canadian agriculture. The delays. The lack of focus on the things the matter. All the burdensome regulations. It all drives out investment in Canada. This needs to be fixed now.

Happy Marketing Freedom Day! Thanks to those who’ve passed on for the work they and their families dealt with. An cheers to us today for having the ability to make our own grain marketing decisions. Yes markets fluctuate yet it’s our grain. 👍#marketingfreedom
It's worse than "uncertainty". Roadblock is a better word. Not just for grain either.
I can't believe the vote was unanimous. Our western MPs talk a great game about free markets, but totally sold out. Completely inconsistent. I would love to hear how they justified it.
Next time the CPC calls for donations, or you see your MP …. Remind them that they passed this bill ‘unanimously’ and ask them how protecting 1 narrow sector of the ag economy could possibly help your farm. #skag
Looks like Bloc supply management bill coupd be fast-tracked through the Senate too. C-202 on the Order Paper for 3rd reading next week. https://t.co/UbtvUhIELo
Supply Management sector put before western Canadian grains farmers again with Bloq private members bill C-202 hammered through parliament with unanimous consent shielding only farmers under supply management.
Bill C-202 is a step backward for Canadian agriculture. It entrenches protectionist measures that shield supply-managed sectors like dairy and poultry while ignoring the needs of grain farmers who depend on access to global markets. Canadian grain farmers produce some of the world’s highest-quality wheat, canola, and other crops, with over 80% of our production exported annually. Any policy that restricts trade or signals protectionism risks retaliatory tariffs and market barriers, directly harming our ability to compete.
Why would western MPs ram a bill through that harms the vast majority of their constituents, mainly farmers??
Tools that have been rigorously vetted and embraced by peer regulators languish in Canadian bureaucratic limbo. The result? Canadian farmers are locked out of innovation, forced to compete globally with yesterday’s tools.
Here’s my second shot at explaining some issues @wheatgrowers feel are holding our agricultural industry back. Thank you to our Executive Director @DarcyPawlik for lending his years of expertise in helping author this piece!
@gmjochum Collateral damage is absolutely right and it extends right across the economy. Why would any export based business with opportunity
make their next investment in Canada?
Also does anyone know if any high level govt officials have even met with the Chinese?
