We do environmental research, focusing on the interconnection between the geosphere-hydrosphere-atmosphere, particularly the movement of water and GHG @bidrBGU
Science doesn't always happen in the lab. Sometimes it happens on a boat. ⛵🌊
Give it up for Ariel Goldberg and Elad Levintal out on the Sea of Galilee, putting two floating GHG flux chambers head to head — Licor's commercial smart chamber vs. our own DIY version. 🎓
We are happy to share some recent recognitions of our lab members on their quiet research work 🎉
+ Elad Levintal received the Toronto Prize for Young Research
+ Thuc Nguyen received the Bauer Prize for PhD Students
+ Ariel Goldberg received the Excellent Student Scholarship
Welcome Ariel Penelopa Goldberg to our lab team! 🌱
Ariel got her BSc in Earth & Environmental Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Her Msc research focuses on #GHG emissions from rehabilitated #wetlands.
We wish you a happy and fruitful journey here at #BGU!
Huge congratulations to Devi and Ehud on reaching major milestones in their Master’s journey — submitting both their theses and manuscripts! 🎉
Proud of your hard work, dedication, and the impact of your research.
A new article in collaboration with Dr. Kamennaya explaining the recurring coexistence of cyanobacteria and algae in desert soils: https://t.co/m4Rm7Iy7Ns
The incubation chambers from earlier work were used to generate some results for this article.(https://t.co/O5L3pox50U)
We kicked off 2026 by installing a gas monitoring system in a deep well, measuring CO₂, O₂, RH, pressure, and temperature at three depths (−6, −46, −86 m) every minute, together with groundwater measurements to study dynamics across the saturated–unsaturated zone.
One of our field days in Sorek stream — exploring the area, identifying potential sites for future water-quality sensor installations, and discussing the next steps of the research
If you are at #AGU, you are welcomed to visit and chat with Elad at his poster session:

Drylands, Deserts & Desertification #DDD2025 wrapped up as an inspiring and successful conference!
Proud moment for our lab: two of our students delivered oral presentations, sharing their esearch on soil–atmosphere gas dynamics and water monitoring technologies for aquaculture.
Soil nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics under Prosopis invasion vs native Acacia. Last part of Isaac Yagle PhD research. Dead Sea shore. https://t.co/Oam06TYjRj
We are going to present at https://t.co/2PomLjHRnJ!
Robel will present his #tinyML project at https://t.co/UJwySyXqen
Thuc will present #CO2#emission from #desert soil at https://t.co/lIZpPujBKM
Visiting #aquaculture water monitoring system led by Robel- our Master student.
In this system, Robel uses data from different #sensors (e.g. DO, pH) as input variables for a #tinyML model to predict real-time water quality from a fish tank.
Welcome Yoav Lingwood to our lab as he begins his https://t.co/9QOtQ6lkWj. degree, and congratulations on receiving the https://t.co/9QOtQ6lkWj. #ExcellenceScholarship from the Albert Katz International School for #DesertStudies!
