West Ham United have confirmed that Joint-Chair David Sullivan has stepped down from his position with immediate effect.
Mr Sullivan has also resigned as a director of both WH Holding Limited and West Ham United Football Club, having been made aware of the impending publication of serious historic allegations. It is understood none of the allegations relate to West Ham United or any of its operations.
Through his own legal representatives Mr Sullivan denies any illegal conduct and has taken the decision to step down in order to avoid disruption to the Club while he addresses the matter privately.
Interim Chief Executive Officer Karim Virani, reporting into the current Board of Directors, will continue to be responsible for leading the Club’s day-to-day operations. The Club will provide an update on the future structure of the Board of Directors in due course, but will make no further comment at this time.
When I read Tolkien in college, I quickly realized Sam wasn't a "side character" which was part of the genius of Tolkien.
Look at the Fellowship of the Ring - an elf, dwarf, and two humans each of noble blood; then a wizard, followed up by 4 hobbits, whom you would expect to leave behind in Rivendell. But the story doesn't follow the noble heroes - it follows the hobbits.
Then we have the side quest of Frodo and Sam and Gollum. Frodo is the "gentleman" class hobbit, while Sam is clearly a man of the people. Yet it's Sam who drives the quest forward and enables its success. Frodo's only job is to hold onto the ring.
And it's the side characters who carry the day. Merry & Pippin bring down the Entish wrath on Saruman. Merry helps kill the Witch-king. Sam literally carries Frodo to Mount Doom, and Gollum has a pretty important role too.
The whole saga is focused on what seem to be the "wrong" people and that's what makes it great. Think how dull and conventional the Lord of the Rings would have been if it had followed Aragorn, as a lesser writer would have done.
I really don’t get it. I have so many politically active friends who post about Free Palestine, No Kings, March for Our Lives, but not a single mention of what’s happening in Iran right now.
Maybe the real magic of the FA Cup is realising that the folk you sit near on the weekly basis aren’t as bad as the bozos you could potentially be sat near.
