#hlthpolicy@Health311 The U.S. has one of the best and most expensive healthcare systems in the world. However, we still score high in chronic disease burdens, obesity, preventable hospitalizations, and avoidable deaths compared to other countries.
Remember as nursing students to always care for yourself before anything else! Many nursing students deal with burnout, so here is some more information on how to recognize and avoid burnout! #nurseselfcare@Health311
Not much has broken my heart like watching someone fret about medical debt while they are quite literally having a medical emergency. Not everyone who is without medical insurance is trying to be malicious when they seek care. #hlthpolicy@Health311
#hlthpolicy@Health311 The US has a step up on preventative medicine while simultaneously inadequately treating the sick. Cost of treatment is high and so is the number of preventable deaths. We know we should do better but don't know where to start.
@Health311#hlthpolicy "The Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) is a federal law that requires anyone coming to an emergency department to be stabilized and treated, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay"
EMTALA is necessary to our public's health.
We cannot discuss culturally competent care without discussing autonomy. We cannot address autonomy without addressing restricted access to reproductive care throughout the United States @Health311#ForTheCulture
Proud to stand together in this powerful caucus of #mnleg colleagues to fight for reproductive freedom - maternal health, comprehensive sex ed, affirming culturally competent healthcare, access to abortion care - for all Minnesotans.
Based on the graph attached, there is almost a direct correlation between income and rate of diabetes. Your income should not be a determining factor for a disease that causes your whole life to change. @Health311#badsugr
I grew up very close to Pima & had friends with family on that reservation. "When I leave the reservation, I see the people that use that water, they have benefited from our loss." I would've never grasped that as a child but to know it now is gut wrenching #BadSugr@Health311
@Traver_Holland@Health311 not sure how these are related but yes! Education access and equitable education access at that, are some of the most important factors that shape the trajectory of our lives. #unnaturalcauses@Health311
the study about dominant and submissive monkeys & how their cortisol levels contribute to changes in arteries opened my eyes. being under consistent, life threatening stress has physical manifestations @Health311#unnaturalcauses
In the documentary “Unnatural Causes” they state that the cost of college has increased 35% in 5 years. When education gives people the opportunity to move up the social gradient, college needs to be affordable to provide equal opportunities. @Health311#unnaturalcauses
I wonder what the difference is between the overall health of nurses in unsafely staffed facilities that aren’t protecting nurses at the bedside compared to safely staffed facilities that advocate for their nurses? @Health311#nurseselfcare
The thought of how this infiltrates all specialties is frightening. It takes awareness to be able to address and correct these issues #itsallabouthealth@Health311
