No matter how slow the elderly person ahead of you in line is, and no matter your hurry, when they turn and apologize you always smile gently and say take your time. ALWAYS.
Hey 🤍
I wanted to finally share something personal… after over 4 years of building Binti through all the ups and downs, we’ve hit a big milestone! We are now local manufacturers 🥹
Our first brand is Mrembo Pads, made right here at home 🇰🇪
@Mrembopads
When I was little, our neighbor used to “randomly” drop off food at our house. Like full meals… not leftovers. I thought she just liked cooking too much or something. Every time she came by, she’d joke like “oops, made too much again.”
I used to get excited because it meant we were eating good that night.
A few years ago I mentioned it to my mom, laughing about how extra our neighbor was back then.
My mom got quiet for a second and then said, “She knew.”
Turns out there were weeks we barely had anything in the house. My mom was trying to hold everything together and thought she was hiding it well.
But our neighbor noticed. And instead of making it awkward or saying anything, she just pretended it was an accident… over and over again.
All those “oops” meals?
She was feeding us on purpose.
I manage a coffee shop. Yesterday, a guy came in for an interview. He was homeless. I could smell it before I saw him. His shirt was stained, his hair was matted, but he had shaved his face clean. He handed me a resume that was wet at the corners. "I'm a hard worker," he said. "I just need a chance. I can wash dishes. I can take out trash. I'll stay in the back." Customers were staring. My boss (the owner) walked out. He looked at the guy. "We don't have a dishwasher position," my boss said. The guy's shoulders slumped. He nodded and turned to leave. "We have a Front of House Manager position," my boss continued. The guy stopped. "Sir, look at me. I can't be in the front." "Not in that shirt, you can't," my boss said. "Go next door to the department store. Buy a shirt, a tie, and some slacks. Put it on my tab. Then come back here and start training. You have kind eyes. I can teach you to make coffee. I can't teach kindness." That was six months ago. That "homeless guy" is now our best employee. He knows every regular's name. He’s not homeless anymore. Sometimes people don’t need a handout. They need a uniform and a belief that they belong in it.
@AlwellGodwin Some things I learnt from last year you can’t help family when you’re not properly standing and remember family would survive without you so don’t kill yourself do it for yourself first then family
😭😭😭I can never forget the day one of my managers called me to the side back in 2022, it was my first time in Paris and she said “I’m from africa and I have family there, I know we have to work hard to help them out of poverty. look at your shoes, do you think a client would book you wearing those shoes? Go to the accountant and get some cash, there’s a Nike store down the street, get some good shoes”
She was just genuinely concerned and that taught me something about appearance especially in front of people your bread lies in their hand.
I’m not crying… Y’ALL are 😭🥹 First thing I see on TikTok is a girl who moved in with her friend for 6 months just to get her life together. Friend told her rent was $350, she paid $400 anyway.
When it was time to move out… the friend handed her ALL $2,400 BACK 😭 and said she never needed the money, it was just to help her SAVE and go handle her business.
MY GOD 🥹 THIS is what love looks like. THIS is grace. THIS is being human.
I asked my dad if I have ever made him cry in front of me before, because I don't remember ever seeing him cry. He said, "Once." He told me that when I was 3 years old, he laid out a pen, a dollar, and a toy of some sort in front of me.
He wanted to see which one I would pick. I think that a lot of Chinese people do that... It represents what you'll value most when you grow up. Like the pen is intelligence, money, is well, money, and the toy is fun. He was just doing it out of curiosity and boredom. It was interesting for him to see which one I'd pick anyway. He said that I just sat there and stared at the items. He sat across from me and waited patiently. According to him, I crawled towards them, he held his breath, and I pushed everything aside and went right into his arms. He didn't realize that he was one of the choices.
And that was the first, and the only time I made him cry
