e.g. to play. I don't know how this is dealt with within clubs, whether players are fined wages or withheld bonuses etc. but that would be the only recourse the club has.

The issue is exasperated in sport by two factors: money and the longevity of players careers.

I appreciate Joe Hart's alternative perspective on Isak, essentially on the lines of why should he care about the club or fans or a contract, which in an individualistic society makes sense, why care about anyone else, you do you.

However, the point strikes me as nihilistic

The club still pays the wages, even if the player is not training with the first team.

The player is still protected by the contract, they are essentially being paid to do very little.

In the opposite example the player is not upholding their contractual obligation,
