This bogus argument is reminiscent of all those who feared the collapse of the Soviet Union because of "instability." The continued suffering of Ukrainians, Syrians and others at Putin's hands matters little. Another "Chicken Kyiv" commentary. The Goldilocks strategy -- a Russia not too weak or too strong -- a war that all want to stage manage into some kind of solution -- is part of the hubris of US policy today. Friedman would feel differently if his ass was getting bombed nightly. Ukraine's allies are forcing Kyiv to go on the offensive missing the weapons -- fighter jets, ATACMs and other armaments -- that the West would never do without. Then Friedmans have the temerity to ask why the offensive is so slow. Pretty disgusting but expected to trot out the nuclear bogeyman, better with the devil you know, argument, as always.

Russian state media does indeed lie about everything. And… in denying the consequences of blowing the dam, they are admitting Russia did it. If they really thought Ukraine did it, they'd be overstating the consequences, not minimizing them.
